      I'm sorry Kershaw :(

Bmoore, good to know. Well my dad drives rather conservatively I'd say, he hasn't owned a sportscar since his 280z in the 70s, and has been driving relatively tame Peugeots, Volvos, and BMWs since.

I think he's just tired of Volvo's (bad experience with the last/current one) and wants something German again. The Volvo cost him about over $10k in repairs in the last few years, and he's spiting himself for straying from German build quality.

BTW, we're going to test drive a few today, I'll report back afterwards. Hopefully I'll get the chance to get behind the wheel of one :D

^ if you do you'll spend every minute wanting one until you get one.

I drove my friend's dad's on some mountain roads and it was incredible. It was a 997 c4 and oh my god was it amazing. Porsche's really are unique cars that are built well. He hasn't had any problems with it, though it's only at 50k.

watch out for your dad money-shifting the fk out of whatever he decides to buy...that's what i'd watch out for.

You live in San Diego and AWD is a must? To each their own. I'm not footing the bill so if it's AWD then so be it. Many a good Carrera out there.

993 Turbo. AWD, and the best looking car to ever come out of Stüttgart.

I work at Porsche as a parts guy.

If something breaks, be prepared to pay for it. Hope your dad has deep pockets.

Ive drove many 993 and 996 chasis in only rwd configuration. If he drove one in rwd he would probaly love it. I didnt pay attention where you/they live but my buddy has a 993 and he plows through snow with anything out there. Blizzaks and rear engine make up a bad ass snow buggy
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left

Im not apposed to wiping my ass with my jizz rag

For a novice who is getting a porsche as a mid-life crisis car I would say go with the Carerra4s. I know they have made great strides in improving the issue they have with rotation I have seen too many balled up (including fatality) at the track to say that RWD 911s are "safe." The weight out the back just makes them too prone to rotation.

Actually Ive known more than a few people who rock them all the time. They do have small back seats that you can set shit on or put kids in.
                              Im now E30less.

What he said. And if you find a 996 for a "really good deal" be SURE to have it inspected by a Porsche specialty shop. There's a lot of parts 911's have that other cars don't, and a run of the mill Volkswagen shop won't know what to look for (IMS bearings ftl.)

They are beautiful cars though, I hope to see a 964 alongside my E30 in the future.

Edit: Or you could talk him into a 959. Great resale value! :P
