    Valve spring compressors.

currently working with this inside my eta head... such a PITA

autozone no longer rents out C-clamp style ones and i have to use this piece of trash.
just wondering if anyone in here owns or has used anything differently and how much did it cost them?

Those pretty much don't work in an M20. Best is to use a drill press with a modified socket to compress the spring.

Getting them out is easy putting them back in is the harder part.

For getting them out use a spark plug socket and a hammer with a rag in the combustion chamber put the socket on the spring retainer and give it a good smack and wear protective glasses.

A magnet helps with this too.

I bought the c-clamp style, works great on the m20, but had to make an adapter for the 24v heads out of an old socket with a notch cut in it. Rebuilt dozens of m20 heads with it and about half that of 24v heads in the past couple years.

Definitely, I have Snap-on plug socket that has a magnet instead of the rubber bit works great :)

I suppose you could pack it with some wheel bearing grease to catch them as well, might be a bit messy tho...
