Tee hee hee hee Lololmfaorotflcopter what are you 12 or you just don't understand? Counting peoples thread count and not understanding hidden sarcastic undertones sounds like a "DICK" to me.
Im done with your overpriced quartz fashion watches, leather jackets, Drakar cologne, and german car fetish.Leave a comment:

what kind of movement does my citizen have?
does it really matter or is it only something that enthusiasts worry about?Leave a comment:

Just to everyone is clear - the 6947 and 6948 are both references to ETA pocketwatch movements. The 6947 will have a sub second hand at the 9 o'clock position on a wristwatch and the 6498 at 6. Otherwise they are the same movement. Having that said, any watch you find that's under $150 new is going to have a Chinese ETA copy. Most of these are made by Seagull - which is not a bad company - but they should not be confused with the Swiss ETA version of the same movement.check out a pam homage, thats how i got into this whole mess to begin with.
a nice 44mm pam luminor homage will set you back between 80-150 for starters.
pams are very versatile watches, they go with a suit or with jeans and a tee, im actually wearing one of my pams for casual friday.
check out this guys stuff, i have one of his watches and it's not bad for a daily beater.
and despite the low price, the watches run on the 6947 movement which is practically bulletproof. the cool part is, it's a mechanical hand wind watch rather than an automatic, meaning about every 40 hours you'll have to wind it to keep it going. to some its a downside, to me it's just another cool part of having a different watch.
once you go mechanical, it's hard to go back to a quartz
ps. pam is short for Panerai. The m is derived from the nomenclature of the watch meaning Panerai Model ###
Thanks for the link anyways. I never thought to buy a new watch with a hand wind movement. In fact, I was looking to build one but the cost of the parts is far more than a complete watch of equal quality. I just picked up this Parnis with a Chinese 6498 movement:
The dial on these 44mm cases is just over 39 mm and I just so happens that american size 10 pocketwatch movements and dials will fit pretty easily. I have a lever set Engin movement with a broken balance staff and other misc problems that I do not have a case or hands for. I'm going to disassemble the above watch and transplant in my crack free porcelain dial with some more period correct loooking 6948 hands. Here's what the dial and hands look like:
It certainly won't be authentic but I have the dial laying around anyways. It should make for a pretty cheap and reliable watch with more of a vintage feel. The only hang up may be the positioning of the mounting posts on the dial but I can always snip them off. It should be a fun and easy project.Leave a comment:
