What are the kinds of welding you guys use in your cars? And what kind of welder would you guys recomend for someone buying on a budget around 200-250? Thank you. Any info is appreciated.

i thought i didn't know anything about welding....
    sigh.
i would imagine most people who ware working on cars would use tig for there aluminum parts and mig for various parts.
maybe some arch but i don't see that being the best option?
idk i took a welding class and i sucked ass at welding, did all my homework though.

If you are just working out of your garage you can get away with a mig from harbor freight.

One requirement, GAS. Do NOT buy a gasless welder. If you do, it won't matter how good you are, your welds will look like shit.

Keep your parts to be welded clean with a sanding disk before work begins. Have fun, don't weld in a straight line, make a C and fill it in to start, then another C.

---- < welding line. -----C<fillC<fill get my drift?

^ +1, at least buy a "gas ready" wire feed, so you can add on a bottle, I have my Princess Auto special, (HF is about the same) and Have not set up gas yet, spatters like a Mo-Fo.

I was thinking of welding a miata to the backend of a 240 in the bed bath and beyond parking lot.

They both have about the same horsepower/weight ratio.
So they should rip each other in half if they both drive away at the same time.

But if said 240 is the one I know you're talking about, then the engine will give out due to lack of oil and the Miata will drag it so fast across that parking lot, Rue 21 won't know what hit it.

I have 4 welders, Century wire feed flux core/gas ready for general mild steel. Miller AEAD 200LE Stick welder W/TIG. Millermatic 130 auto ark wire feed W/aluminum spool. and an old Monster Lincoln pipe line welder (used mainly for power outages at the homestead) I use the century flux core the most, you can get one at Farm and Fleet or the likes for under $200. Stainless and Aluminum the millermatic cant be beat. The AEAD 200LE is gasoline powerd on a custom trailer for the field work.

Just bought an Einhell BT-GW150 wire feed, it was within my budget and is for use with Shielding gas only. Bought a 20L Bottle/tank today filled with 82% Argon/18% C02....not ideal but good enough for practice and what I need to weld at the moment.

if you dont know how to weld, and you are asking about what welder (aka process) you use on cars. You should not be welding ON cars until you learn how to weld properly.
