that's because you haven't filled in your W2 correctly so you weren't paying enough to begin with.

I'm about to go out there with a tractor (rural area FTW!) and rip up the fucking ripples that jarr the shit out of my car (Even the stock suspension ones). Each end of the road I live on has them. The asphalt is like a sine wave.

I change it every year. Upping my withholding, every year. It's getting ridiculous.

I owe about $300 for fed and get $55 back from state. That is basically how I like it. A refund is just overpayment for most people. Id rather give them as little as possible all year long (just enough to not get the underpayment penalty) and then pay at the end of the year.

why give the government an interest free loan and then brag about it online?

by not pulling money out of my check and being able to throw it in even a crappy 1 year cd I can make (on the low end) .5%

              take that suckers :P

So it's better to financially burden the parents of the next generation so it's harder to put kids through school, therefore ruining this crap economy even more?

One could say "I despise that your parents didn't have an abortion" (being facetious of course). Would it also be fair on the flip side to say you shouldn't be able to deduct interest on your home/vehicle loans because you are single? You were a dependent at one time too, MR.

Kids are expensive, and everyone here was (or is) one. Of course we should have breaks for providing/educating/guiding the next generation. Just like we get breaks for working hard, saving money and buying a house.

I gave the government a $7k interest free loan this year. Aren't I so nice, now I guess I'll let them give it back.

If you can't afford them, you shouldn't be having them. I don't like social engineering with the tax code.

I'd be perfectly fine with the mortgage deduction going away.

that's a chicken and egg question. how are you going to stop people from having kids they can't afford? forced sterilization? it's not even a talking point worth thinking about because it's never going to happen. There will always be people too poor to have children. Also, having kids is awesome. Who are you to say who should and shouldn't have them? To some people their kids are the best/only thing they really have that's worth anything.

Easy, if someone else has to help support to them (and I'm not talking about my property taxes going to schools/teachers and stuff like that, I'm fine with that.)

If we have to use my tax dollars to buy them food, clothes and shelter, because the parents couldn't afford to take care of themselves, much less a dependent, than yes, those people shouldn't have children.

Sorry if that sounds heartless. Just my opinion, but I'll leave it at so this doesn't turn into a P&R thread.

Well then the parents should have enough money/time/education to educate the children themselves? It's not about being able to afford to have children, it's about giving them a fighting chance. My children don't get educated by the school system your hard earned dollars go to. I get a tax break and my offspring are getting a good education as a result.

Um, i think you missed the point. He was calling for an END to social engineering and that the tax code shouldnt be used to prop up people having kids, which is all most of those breaks are. Its all tax codes used to promote a behavior.

Having kids isn't always something that is planned, a majority of pregnancies are unplanned. But like everyone else said...why should the children have to suffer? I paid my taxes into the system, I am getting back what I deserve. I don't give a fuck what people think about it, either.

If I made significantly more, then I can see this logic. But when I only make enough to gain $200 in interest from a savings account opened with the money I would be paying the government, it's just a mute point. I would then have to pay taxes on that interest and still likely owe the government more taxes.

And this all assumes I actually follow through with putting money aside in an account, which is honestly the hardest part sometimes.

I'll take my $1200 bonus at the beginning of the year thank you.
