She'll be using it for work, so with the write-off cost isn't an issue, is their a better Android tablet she should be considering?

I have a transformer, I use it for light school work (word/excel/powerpoint) but mainly email/netflix/browsing.
It's great, but it isn't yet a computer replacement IF you need in-depth MS office editing. For light read/write/edit, sure, but document creation it is not the best at.
battery life is win though.Comment

I almost bought an Eee Pad, but the old guy looking at the demo model when I got there ended up buying the last one they had in stock and I lost interest shortly after. They are very nice though.Comment

Z31, is your wife getting one WITH the keyboard or without?
With the keyboard it is great, but without I'm not sure it's the best. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 was the best competitor back in September-ish when I was paying attention.Comment

Yeah, that's been coming soon for a long time. I'll believe it when I see it. Or really, I'd love to see them get within shouting distance. It'd be nice if there was something other than the iPad that isn't a heaping pile of shit.2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD LBZ/Allison

The Transformer is probably my favorite Android based tablet. I still use my iPad, though. The build quality and design on everything but the iPad is underwhelming so far and I can do everything I need on both ios and Android so OS doesn't matter.sigpicComment

iPad sucks anyways who cares about it, none of these devices are a REPLACEMENT for a PC (since someone above commented on it).
It's a nice "addon" for being lazy on the couch or something lighter to take with you etc.
There have been a number of studies/tests done to support this, these aren't powerful enough to do anything other than web/email use and light application use.
I've also looked at the Asus Transformer, i like how they give you an option to add a physical keyboard. Nice touch!
I'll wait a bit to see what else will be out this year.Mtech1 v8 build thread - https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/sho...d.php?t=413205

@Jean, fwiw the new Transformer is vastly more powerful than anything else out on the market- quad core cpu and a better graphics chip.
Not laptop level, no, but better than my Transformer and the iPad have.Comment

I love my transformer. Use it every day.
For a week.
And THEN charge the battery overnight on saturday night.
It's the greatest thing in the world for typing notes in class, never worrying about being near an outlet in the middle of class.
I'm just waiting until the prime prices come down a little bit.
(also if you root it, it's a FANTASTIC Snes/Nes emulator, Using HDMI to hook up to a TV, Using a PS3 wireless controller)
But will it replace a laptop?
If you don't use a laptop for anything CPU intensive, yes.
Also, It's pretty silly to buy it without the keyboard. I use it way more with it than without it.Last edited by TurboJake; 02-02-2012, 09:09 PM.Comment
