I moved to my college house with my e30 carrying 3 bikes, a mini fridge, all my clothes, a tool box, tons of parts, bedroom furnishings, etc. I swear that I have no idea how i'm alive, but I made it haha. I could only see out my windshield and drivers window. If i was going to do it again, I would have either put a cargo rack on the roof or stolen my mom's suburban

          sell/buy

Sell the big stuff you don't care about, before you leave school. Re-buy later.

Easy choice, wagon. I drove from NC to CO (1500 miles-ish) with my e30 packed with everything I could fit/need for the winter, my Dad, and my 70 pound German Shorthaired Pointer. Car is lowered on Vogtlands, and we had not one single issue the whole 2 day drive. That said, why wouldn't you take the car that can comfortably fit all your stuff? 4 months without the e30 will be good for you, a character builder!

really, put in some extra spring pads for the drive and then take them out when you get home.

can't you put those at friend's house if you gonna have to bring those back after 8 weeks? Otherwise ship them via ground or something. I don't know how much it cost though..when I did the same shit in korea it cost me $50 to send bunch of huge boxes..(mini fridge, blanket, etc)
