I suggest buying him lots of clothing with his name embroidered on every one of them, and send her shirts that are screenprinted with his picture, and the words "I love my Lil' Rex!"
We were thinking about this last night, for our trip to New Jersey. Buy him a bunch of shirts that say "My name is Rex" on the front, and then have a dog riding a dinosaur on the back.
After thinking about it more and more, I'm most likeky going to over there and have a conversation with her and give her the ultimatum. Its totally stupid for her to call him anything but Rex. In the same conversation, she complained about my wife and her mom not respecting her, and then she won't even call my son by his name? :loco:
And if he inherits my feet, then the foot fetish route is a nogo. Maybe a famous Jamaican?
I go threw this with my in-laws every now and then. They insist on calling my son Jack instead of Jackson. I'm quick to correct them though. There's nothing worse then being a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles and in my gut I feel they are challenging me...
Do what you want but as a parent shit like this can get on your nerves because you never know what is going to mess with a childs mind.

Ha, I know what you're talking about. She'll come around, but then it will be something else. Trust me on this one. We named are oldest Paden after Kevin Klien's character in the movie Silverado. Everyone said Paden? What are you going to call him?
Anyway, you had a kid, she's now a grandma, that's a big transition. the name will be the first of many things you don't do" RIGHT" . Get use to it bro
Tell her she needs to deal with HER problem, but in no way is she going to call your son anything but his name.
His name, in it's entirety it his right, not his middle name, not a nick name, not a shorter or cuter version. his NAME.
confusing a kid about his name can easily lead to esteem issues. stay strong my friend stay strong.
p.s. I support Slammin's suggestion as usual of a punch to the Ovaries as well.

I don't see the problem with Rex. Granted its not a very popular name but it's not like you named your kid Spot or Patches or some obvious animal name. I wouldn't let someone decide for my kid what to call them. If he wants to go by Evan that's one thing but if only one person called me by my middle name that's pretty weird.
Off the top of my head
Rex Burkhead
Rex Ryan
Rex Lee

I know lots of dogs named Rex and if I had a tyrannosaurus that is what I would name it. If my mom did not like the name I would just have Rex eat her.
