Laptop broke, looking for a cheap computer replacement

I had an asus laptop I had baught refurbished about 3 years ago. At the time, i did a lot of film production, and needed a lot of ram/dual core processor/firewire. For the price I paid back then and the features it had, I pretty much baught it right when i saw it for sale.

However, im pretty sure its shot for good now. I got the hd replaced it fried a couple times. Last time I used it, the charger insulator wire was torn, and when i tried to charge the wire started sparking. I tried my moms netbook charger, and it would charge for 1 second then go off charging for another second, very annoying since the screen kept dimming. Being in a mad mood that day, and there was an annoying highpitched noise that was just starting that day, i hit the keyboard and the computer blacked out.

Eithor way, I figure the charger/repair will be a couple hundred dollars. I have a smart phone I normally use, but its getting pretty annoying on such a small screen. I basically use a computer for:

    -r3v for reading, parts, etc.
    -stupid internet sites
    -email
-guitar pro (a playback guitar tab software)
    -music
    -possibly online movies

I was wondering if any of these laptops were good options, or which you would recommend:

Sony vaio lifestyle-small, seems to have good battery life. I could use ot easily in my car and bag at school, Just do not know if it could run itunes with a couple hundred songs well, or guitar pro

Any netbook out there- Same deal, like the convience, but needs to have a good battery and be able to stream youtube videos decently and use itunes.

I am only looking to spend 2-400 because I honestly do not really use the computer that much. Its more or less a means to access everything my smart phone can do but easiler, and a slightly bigger screen. Plus, i am just super tired of the radio in my car, and need to get my ipod hooked up with new songs. Please let me know, thanks

id just check out whas on newegg.com
they always got sweet stuff for awesome prices.
Pretty much every laptop they sell has windows 64 bit on it, which is nice too.
HP, samsung, and Asus seem to be very good brands as i have never had problems with them. Plus their products are sleek in design.
Im kind of looking for a laptop for the same purposes and i found some in the 400-500 dollar range. generally they come with windows 64bit, 500G of storage, and 4 gigs of ram, which is pretty sweet. thats more than enough for me, but i always like having the extra power as i do editing on the go every once in a while.
I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

Pretty much any laptop you buy new nowadays will be able to handle most basic programs like I-tunes. I think the smallest HD most laptops come installed with are at least 250 gigs which is plenty for songs and movies. If you feel you need more, you can always buy an External HD for like 50 bucks now to store media.

For the guitar program, it depends on the required specs. If its any older than 5 years, it'll run with no problem on a windows 7 equipped laptop.

For the ability to stream movies, it really depends on your internet connection.

you mentioned netbooks, which are usually much less powerful than laptops or PCs, but for the price, theyre not bad. you SHOULD be able to run your guitar program, watch videos, and run Itunes, but you may not be able to store as much media on their smaller HDs

Same thing happened to me. My laptop decided to not work anymore. I scoured Craigslist and got a good deal on a basically brand new macbook.

I forgot to mention I have a 500gig external hd worse case.

I just don't want it to run slow on higher def videos and be able to handle a decent itunes library

I bet he has! But I bet he also knows the pricetag attached to all apple products. He can't even buy an IPhone for his price range, much less the cheapest mac. MAYBE he can get an Ipad, but the base model which is weaksauce

                            Or

Toshiba and Asus are pretty much the top two most reliable laptop manufacturers. I've owned 5+ Asus laptops and 2 Toshibas and they have all been rock solid. For $330, can't beat it.

                            Only downside is no HDMI.
