I will keep enjoying Texas' legal 85 mph highways and unenforced tollway speed limits of 80 mph.

If you are speeding it is your own fault don't come on to the forums to having cry, that the tolerance is less. So what if they are revenue rasing? they need money to protect and serve, and yes the government is probably not putting enough money towards the police department.

The reason there is a tolerance is because of speedo Inaccuracies, not for you to drive over the limit. This kind of post just fucks me right off.

Ironically, the interstates in the US were designed so that the cars of mid-20th century America could do 75 safely. Until you've driven one, you don't quite appreciate what that means.

Is it the law? Sure. Is it rather ironic that arbitrarily lowered speed limits on US interstates have been fairly well proven to cost lives? Hell yes.

^Va raised it's maximum speed limit to 70mph a couple years ago.

Buttt, they did not raise the 80mph automatic reckless driving limit. Normally, on the interstate, it's 15mph over for reckless driving. Now it's effectively 10 on the 70mph zones of the interstate.

But it's safe to say just be around the speed limit and you should be good. I go 5-10 over all the time, drive by cops and drive with cops and have never had a problem. White sign is the limit and yellow sign is suggested. Had a cop give a friend a ticket for a yellow sign, told him to tell judge it was a yellow sign, he looked it up and case dismissed.

They can pull you over, but the judge will throw it out in court, so it's a waste of time.

Most cops I've talked to give single digits over the limit up (1-9 over). Once you hit double digits over, they'll pull you (10+)

IIRC, most DOT regs allow for +/- 4% speedo calibration. But really, it's probably just not worth their time to get you for 1-4 over.

Here in WI, the brackets are as follows (as of the last time I checked): 1-4, 5-9,10-15,16-whatever. I've never been ticketed for less than 25 over, and never been stopped for less than 12 over.
Now I go to race tracks and don't do 25 over. Fun:dollar ratio is much, much better.
Never had a speeding ticket in the e30 either.

I put tiny tires on my cars. Makes you feel like you're speeding when you're going the limit.


But really though, it is a rule. Be happy you're allowed to go over the limit at all. I admit I'd be pissed if I got pulled over for less than 15 over, but you can't really complain.

No offense Poor Adam, but I live in NJ, and do the speed limit regularly. I do not get run off the road. The people that are the hazard are the ones that think the speed limit is a starting point, and ride up on peoples asses because they are following the rules of the road. I have gone over the speed limit, and been ticketed as well. I payed my fines, and dealt with it.

Also, I hope people realize how optimistic the E30 speedo is. Mine is a good ~11% or so fast. I cruise with my speedo pegged at 90 because it's actually only about 79. Use the GPS in your phone and you'll see how optimistic your speedo reads.

I've got a guy here. I bought him dinner once after he got me out of a reckless ticket. He got me out of a speeding and another reckless, one free, on for $100. The $100 one I just happened to see him in court when I was there and asked him, lol.
