The cost to maintain an S38 is manageable... but you really have to do most of the work yourself. I'm planning a performance rebuild of mine that will run me about 6 grand... which is about half of what it would cost to have someone else do it. Then again, you can build an M20 2.8L stroker for less than 3 grand... which again is about half of what it would cost if you bought say a MM 2.8L engine.
However... an E34 535i turbo would be the tits! But if you find an E39 540i/6 then you are going to have a hell of a decision on your hand. Just know that the E34 will still be lightyears cheaper to maintain, but you could probably nail two bitches in the back of the E39 at one time. Nice big back seats... :pimp:
If the e39 checks out, I'd go with it. But I'd check every f--king square inch of it out. Even if its a theft recovery, you realize that many of those are beat to hell by the people who steal them, right?
Keep the e30 now, like parked or something after you "finish it" then buy a nice ass E34.
I agree. Now just keep the E30 and park it then get a nice 5 series. Although i still beat my brothers 540 in the 1/4 he keeps up with me on the freeway. Those things can be very fast. I would buy one for a daily driver if i had the money. But i keep finding more to buy for my car which isnt hard to do.

Found a 540/6 with a blown water pump for cheapcheap. I'm going to have him repair it and make sure the engine still runs properly. The e30 will stay for a couple more months now, she gets repaired in two weeks (if someone sends me a head).
