There is a pretty cool book called "Healthy at 100" which explores the common traits amongst societies with high percentages of centenarian population. The common traits are as follows:
1. Moderate daily exercise of the low stress kind such as gardening, walking etc.
2. A lower than normal caloric intake.
3. A diet rich in whole fruits and vegetable.
4. Consuming few animal products, no more than a few portions per week.
5. Having a sense of purpose.
6. Socializing daily with friends and family.
7. Being happy.
8. Consuming little or no alcohol, cigarettes, etc.
Now of course you can live a long and happy life eating lots of meat, but statistically, it's not a common trait amongst the healthiest and longest living individuals. At the same time, you can be a strict vegan but if you skip the other characteristics listed, you also probably won't live a long and healthy life. Or you can just bank on the statistic that you will be one of the 25% or so of people that die from an accident, then really diet and nutrition matter little.
Any Vegans on the board?

Right, you posted one link to a body builder who probably spends his whole day eating 1,500 pounds of lettuce to get 200 grams of protein. To be that ripped and be a veggy, that is way to much work and requires complete dedication and lots of time. Now go look at any other professional body builders diet and let me know how many celery sticks and strawberries you see in it.
1) unless you are a Body Builder as profession you will never have time to look like the guy you linked as a veggy.
2) Your wrong and here is why, http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/ch...ls-466684.html
2) your gay

I read about 15 posts in this thread and decided I'm gonna go grill myself some burgers. Hell, I'm gonna add a couple slices of bacon too.

God gave us humans free will. Spread your seed or mate for life? Live alone or with others in groups? Vegetarian, carnivore, omnivore? Follow animal instinct or choose a different path? Live or commit suicide?Leave a comment:

These "vegans" seem to think us savages eat a 16 oz steak for every meal and even at snack time!!!So you're twisting what I said to fit your argument. That's pretty typical.
Do you know what a balanced diet is?
It doesn't mean you eat meat every fucking meal for Christ's sake.
Treatment for anemia varies depending on the type of anemia. This lists treatments for aplastic anemia, sickle cell anemia, iron deficiency anemia, anemia of chronic disease, and pernicious anemia.
A balanced diet...
You can be unhealthy as a vegan if you're not eating right just like the guy that pigs out on meat all weak and eats no greens will typically be unhealthy. Being a vegan does not equal health.
And about your protein comments...

1. If you're going to make such claims at least present something to back them up.
2. 95% of the population that consumes meat on a daily basis does not do so on a "balanced diet" if anything they consume mostly animal product and think that the lettuce and tomato on their burger constitutes a serving of vegetables.
3. I'll put my cholesterol numbers up against a daily meat eater any day of the week.
Quoted from the peer reviewed American Journal of Clinical Nutrition - http://www.ajcn.org/content/78/3/526S.full
And there's a bajillion articles posted that provide solid proof that people who consume animal products (mainly meat & dairy) with every meal have a higher rates of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Posting your own opinion all day doesn't mean jack shit if you can't take the time to find resources to back it up. All you're doing is continuing to spread misinformation.

Total cholesterol numbers means nothing. Mine has been a steady 275 to 300 my whole life regardless of diet. There are many other indicators that are better that the majority of people won't understand. And even if they do, you can debate each test all day long. As long as you feel healthy, look healthy, and all your tests show that you are reasonable healthy than really there is no reason to change. Diet is only one of several practices for liviing a long and healthy life. .But most centenarians eat low calorie diets with much fewer than average meat portions.Just to be clear, I'm not attacking you or anything, ok? I'm curious myself and it can probably add to this conversation.
For the sake of this convo, I'm willing to post my numbers up whenever I finally get them checked and compare them to yours? I've only been doing this keto lifestyle since early February however, so my results may not be as thorough as yours may be since I believe you've been following your life style for a much longer time. I eat meat and cheese pretty much everyday so it may be something of interest.Leave a comment:
