BMW Forums - Pros & Cons- Opinion obviously

So... I wonder sometimes why if I don't have an E30 anymore why am I hanging on an E30 board. The thing is BMWs for the most part are BMWs... there are a lot of similarities between the various models and many people own more than one kind of BMW. But this leaves me still looking at many forums everyday with R3V being my personal favorite... but there are so many forums out there, many of which I still don't know about. But here are my opinions (remember that... opinion) on the ones I have looked at:

R3VLimited.com - excellent all around forum, kind of elitist, but even if someone will flame you in off-topic, they will still try and help you with an E30 problem most like (i.e. Ken and I definitely don't see eye-to-eye politically, but he has offered me constructive advice in my car posts and I hope I have done the same. I ahve noticed that with a lot of people, which is why I laugh when people get all flammy on politics in OT). Not a very good board for FI applications, or aftermarket ECUs, but mostly because we are cheap E30 owners/ex-owners. Definitely good bang-for-the-buck oriented performance advice, as long as you ignore the people with bias or no real experience in a subject who just talk-the-talk. The forum structure is awesome and makes finding info very easy.

E30tech.com - Swedes rule it seems. Nice people, some very intelligent car buffs there. The place for FI education and conversation. Downside is if you don't want to turbo charge your car or aren't a swede lover then you aren't really going to find people to talk to. Structure isn't as well layed out as R3Vlimited either. Exile for the Jordan-haters of R3Vlimited.

Roadfly.org - I'm guessing it has been around since the age of the dinosaurs. Very knowledgable people but the archaic forum layout and absolutely worthless search engine makes it pretty much useless. Nice thing is you can find something on every model of BMW.

Bimmerforums.com - too big, E36/E46 biased. Every time I do a "new post" search I get over 100 posts. Some good info if you do a specific search though, but once again not really for anything other than E36/E46.

Bigcoupe.com - an E24 6-series only board. Some good resources but rarely gets posted to.

s14.net - If you have an E30 M3 that you have put $50k into, or would like to, this seems to be the place for you. If you are searching for an E30 M3 to buy this also looks like a good source. Elitist to the point of being arrogant, but I have only read a few threads.

maxbimmer.com - how long has this one been around for?

dtmpower.net - E36/E46 own you here from the looks of it. Don't really find my way over there.

What is everyone else's opinions? Which forums do you visit on a regular basis? I hit the first 5 listed every weekday using my Firefox tabs (duck). I'm sure there are some good club forums out there as well. Again, these are only my opinions and I could very well be wrong about most or all of it.

The only forums I visit, are:
r3v - good source of technical info. Lots of info regarding motor swaps.

baye30.net - local Bay Area forum. Nice little community. Monthly meets. Has some very knowlegeable people. The only downside is that since it's a local forum, there's not as much traffic.

bimmerforums.com - not very technical. I use it for general BMW chit-chat. Also, it's a good place to find e36 parts for sale.

dtmpower, maxbimmer, e30tech- I never go to these. I don't find very useful info very often.

You forgot about Unofficialbmw.com. It's a smaller forum than R3v (and the crowd is a bit older and mature), but I think the knowledge there is about the same level. There are a handful of guys on there that really know their stuff. Definitely worth checking out.

Holy crap... I've been to that site a million and a half times and never noticed there was a forum there. I'll give it a check out.

R3v- agree with everything uflnuceng said. good place to get tech info if you have a problem but really easy to get flamed about your car.

Bimmerforums.com-yes everything is e36/e46 mostly e36 M3 IMO. if you want to know anything about that then go there first. I go because the OT kicks at BF.c and is so much fun.

It used to be bmwe30.net was the place to go. Then it went away for a while and has never really come back. I occasionally go there and look at the classifieds.

Yeah... I would say THE place for E30 motor swaps, and a great resource for motor swaps in general. Totally helped me for my M30 projects more than any other site out there. I published what I did on roadfly and they were all surprised... god, I really hate searching roadfly. Such a horribly archaic forum structure.

DTM is pretty worthless, a overwhelming majority of threads on there are "whats the biggest wheel I can fit on my car?" "Whats a good body kit for my car?" and "Man ricers sucks!" lol

bf.com is huge, great for overpriced classified cars, too much e36 info. the track forum is good though.

e30.de and e30-talk.com are also awesome places for motor swap info. All the posted info is in german but with an online translator I am sure most people could figure it out and in the forums people are willing to help in engrish if need be.

The CCA chapters have sites but I tend to find those useless for anything but "where to find" and where to meet" posts.

BEN is still there but I havent been able to get the forum to properly load for a while now.

I don't ever go to bfc anymore, just when Ben sends me links of shit on there. For my random BMW related banter and E46 shit I go to germantechnik.com. All the people who were banned from bimmerforums migrated there.

The E30M50 newsgroups are all but dead, I think once we all complete the swap we stop caring.
                  Im now E30less.

I've noticed now that DTM is pretty much going to shit, that I've been spending much more time on r3v. r3v is a lot better for techincal help, and there's not so much of the non-bmw crowd here.

It's in the 'bulletin board' section, I belive. It's a pretty good resource.

                        The forums I stick with....

R3V: good community and plenty of technical info to give insight to solving problems or planning mods. Classifieds good for buying/selling chit.

BayE30: pretty much just NorCal folks like me hanging out there. Good source for help and I like the classifieds to buy/sell bulkier gear I don't feel like packaging or shipping.

Unofficial BMW: another good source of info....a bit antiquated but good nonetheless.

                        Seldom/never visited forums....

s14.net: seldomly post....mainly lurking. Lots of diehard gearheads.

Roadfly: one of the first forums I dabbled with. Decent newb territory. Once I started learning a lot about E30s I gravitated away from this place. Haven't been there in a looooong time.

BEN: someone a couple posts up mentioned it....I forgot all about that place. First E30 forum I posted on....haven't been there in a few years.

Personal favorite non-forum based E30 site....

e30m3performance (Gustave's site): great in-depth technical stuff about E30s and the mighty M3. I have learned more about E30 M3s at this site than anywhere else.

                        Sites I simply don't visit....don't know why, I just don't....

DTM went to shit 4 years ago man...

R3v - the new haven for newbies and people who can't spell, capitalize, or form complete sentences.

BFC.com - has good classifieds, good FI forums, and a lot of nice cars to look at, but I can't even read the E30 section.

E30tech.com - has too much of a Ned Flanders feel, plus JW posts there so I have to stay clear.

Big time. I've been banned off there 4 times. It's just too hard to deal with that hand-holding touchy-feely "don't hurt anyone's feelings" bullshit.
