I can't speak for most girls, but I'm lucky enough that my group of friends has for the most part met girls who at least try to learn about cars so they're capable of knowing what may or may not need repairs on their car and not getting bent over the mechanics toolbox when they go to get things fixed (if none of our friends are able to help them fix it, which is usually not the case as we all have access to a full shop with a hoist).

My girlfriend on the other hand hates cars, and it seems the only time she ever actually notices anything at all about mine is when it's an upgrade that I'm trying to hide or at least not tell her the cost of. She get's annoyed when I spend all my free cash on the car instead of going out with her. New tires? She never notices. Fix the broken passenger seatbelt? Not even a word. Fix air conditioning? Didn't have a clue. But the day I install my new MOMO wheel "Is that a new steering wheel? How much did that cost?" or when I installed euro trim "Did you get new bumpers? what was wrong with the old ones?"

But I would also agree from what I've seen, that on average, females aren't as interested as males in cars. I wish there were more females who were as interested in cars as I am.

So she noticed the absence of 4" long lights on your bumper trim but didn't notice that her seatbelt magically started working?

My wife is a service advisor for an independent shop.
                  She has owned over 50 cars and trucks so far,including a Vette,4 or 5 Mustangs,and a bunch of trucks,hates sedans,Minivans and suvs.
She thinks duece coupes are belly button cars.
We got married in Vegas and then went to Nascar Qualifying, her idea!
She let me buy a sweet racecar in july and then stole my 325is trackrat as her DD.
                  She does track days.

                  She is the bestest wife,ever.

                        FYI -
102-Year-Old Woman Has Been Driving For Longer Than Anyone On The Planet
Margaret Dunning started driving when she was eight. Thanks to some fortunate family connections, she got her driver's license when she was 12. For those of you whose understanding was that there'd be no math involved, she's been driving 94 years, legally for 90.

My girl basically knows how to read her check engine oil or service light. Other than that it's baaaabe why's my car making this noise (insert shitty attempt at trying to replicate sound over phone here).

There's maybe 4-5 females and the rest are guys. It's simply an inclination to be interested in certain things based on gender. If we went on fashion forums there would probably be a lot more girls than guys (again, I don't mean that in any insulting way, I've browsed fashion forums myself before).
tis true, always a lot less girls in the upper division science/technical classes. Best way to meet girls is in a PE class, I recommend yoga class.

Why? Because they're not shown that they can be engineers and physicists, and they're usually not promoted to do so by their peers and parents. I mean, it's getting way better now that others are starting to realize that girls are people too.

33% of all earth sciences phd graduates are female
and a majority of ALL phd graduates are female
yet they'll still even earn even less doing the same jobs with the same education.

it's a discrepancy that goes down to a social level.
