F1 gear boxes must last a minimum of 5 events.... That's 4 per year 20 race season.
For the OP... its not even a contest. Back in the 90's, indy cars and F1 cars were very similar. That's why a bunch of F1 drivers came over to Indy. The cars were the same, but there was more money to earn from advertising allowed in the US vs Europe.
Now days, F1 cars are WILDLY more advanced than indy cars. From engines that turn 18,000 rpm (To Indy's governed 10,000). Much higher HP in F1 (est. 800-900 to 600-700 in Indy), lower weight, more use of composite materials, much more downforce in F1, DRS, KERS.... Its not even something you can compare really. They are so different, its apples to oranges. Indy car should compare to ALMS.
