You don't wait until you see the oncoming cars slow down before you turn? Unfortunate to say the least, but IMO, you were at fault for going too soon. Then again, I wasn't there :p

depends on your state's law and prior court cases. In many states, you cannot turn in front of oncoming traffic, even if the oncoming traffic is operating illegally. Thus, whether she had the yellow, or even a red - you have the duty NOT to turn across oncoming traffic.

Sorry, dude. Glad no one was hurt.

Contemplating it, or should I let insurance cover it?

That's a tough call. It may not be worth it considering they may try to drop you in the future and your premiums would probably go up, but I am not really sure. Have you been in contact with your insurance co. about the accident? They could probably tell you what the exact consequences will be.

My insurance will double so I'll be paying 4000 every 6 months, and I'll have 2 points on my record.

But damn, 5 weeks until I get it back. God damn.

$4000 every 6 months? That cant be right.... $666 a month? Ouch!

Not that it matters, but for comparison, I pay $57 a month for full coverage on my Expedition, and $150 every 6 months for liability on my E30....

Yeah, keep in mind I'm also insured on all our family cars. 2005 530i / 1997 528i, and my dads jeep and I've had my license for about 6 months.
