    E30 Injurys

Have you ever been working on your E30 and the hood falls onto your back? Well it happened to me a couple times(shitty hood shocks) and every time it happened it always hit me right in the damn shoulder. What other injurys do people get while working on their cars? I figured it would be a good idea to start a thread where people could post the injurys they receive while working on their E30. I thought it would be a good way to show others what to watch out for so we can stay out of the hospital and keep working on our cars.

Also I punched myself in the chest pretty hard once while removing my shift knob.

Not e30 related, but car injury none the less. I was replacing the rear pads on my 97 mustang. I had it on blocks that was kind of schaisty. My dad came out and was on the other side. He leaned on the car to pick something up off the ground next to it and the car slipped off the blocks (he didn't know I was there). Rotor came down on my right leg. Smashed my shin bone, my dad fortunately, had superman adrenaline kicking at the time and lifted the rear from the quarter panel up enough to get my leg out from under the rotor. Stupid of me, but I was young and first time working on a car. Definitely an eye opener to safety when working on cars.

Sometimes when i go surfing and i park head on against the wind, the trunk lid falls down (due to the wind and the heavy mtech 2 spoiler) and stabs me in the back while i am dressing up.

Shit man that's nasty. A similar thing happened involving jack stands but it happened to my neighbor. I guess he was working under the car and the car came down on his chest. And his son grabbed a jack and got the car off him in a hurry. I think the town named his son a hero or something. Must have been scary as hell.

By far the worst pain I've ever felt, at first I thought it was just going to go through my leg or that I was going to lose it when we got to the hospital. Crazy though cause my dad's a pretty small guy 5'7" at about 165lbs. He lifted that shit with a full, I repeat, FULL tank of gas.

On my old car I was removing caliper bolts and I somehow leaned and slipped on the breaker bar in such a way that I broke a rib.
Fired up google, found out not much can be done with broken ribs, not much trouble breathing, so no hospital. Sleep was almost impossible for the following ~20 days.

Nothing more than the usual skinned knuckles.

Actually, when laying on my back, while removing a Getrag 260 I dropped a 1/2" ratchet and it happened to hit me directly in the eye ball. It was painful.

I was loading an s52 in my van to put in a client's 318. While loading the hoist slipped and the engine/trans swung into my had and severed the tendon that controls the thumb - had to have emergency plastic surgery to be able to have movement back in it. The cut wasn't crazy bad, just really deep (could see bone), but got really scared when trying to pull a paper towel off the roll and my thumb didn't work.

This happened Thursday and have a pic of the cut if anyone wants to see my thumb bone lol. Doc had to cut my arm open to find the other end of the tendon so he could sew it back together. Now have a half-cast on for 6wks and will need therapy FTL.

Ive always tried to be as safe as possible when working on my car. I have a few bad fears i never want to happen, so i try my best to prevent them.

The only thing in terms of an injury is my stupid self hitting my head on the fender when working in the wheel area.

I did run into a really close call recently when helping a friend roll his fenders on his mazda 3. We were making a small ramp out of some wood so we could fit the jack under the car. On the first try, he tried backing up on to two 2x4s stacked on top of each other, which was a really bad idea. The car ended up running over the wood and shooting it out the front. Luckily no one was there at the time because im sure someones leg would have gotten broken from how fast that thing came out. We definitely spent more time making a safer ramp for him.
I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.
