Car buying agent job on Craigslist.

I've gotten myself in touch with a guy via craigslist who is looking for something he calls a 'car buying agent.' Is this a scam, or is it legit? The ad says $500 per car bought. I think it's some kind of tax evasion scheme on his part. He said on the phone he wants to buy 2013 Mercedes and Porsches and ship them to China. Seemed pretty shady but piqued my interest.

Step 1: Agree to being his 'car buying agent'
Step 2: Receive enough funds to buy said 2013 Mercedes and Porsches
        Step 3: ???
        Step 4: Profit!

Question is, what part of the ad sounds legit to you?

My son "met a guy whose dad was a rich African"...shipping cars to Senegal or some such place. He said he could make $8k flipping an Escalade using dad's money.

I discouraged it (duhh) and some time later I did read about a bust of a familiar sounding scenario.

This sounds like a scam, however, there are plenty of people who actually do flip cars to Africa. Usually high mileage crap but it does happen. They usually buy in 3's to fill a container. FL Truck and Exchange is a company that we do a lot of business with that does this.

I can't decide if I want to potentially waste my time driving across town to meet this guy. Then again, if it's not a well known scam I guess it's worth a try. I did some Google searches for stuff like "car buying agent scam" and didn't turn up any results, so maybe it's just shady and not actually illegal.
