A federal judge has for the first time ruled that Bitcoin is a legitimate currency, opening up the possibility for the digital crypto-cash to soon be regulated by governmental overseers.
Yay regulation by the government!.... oh.

Our paper money and Bitcoin are the same thing. They have no right to regulate shit if all of it is based on faith anyways.

The other day I had heard about ATMs that will be doing transactions for Bitcoins. Time did a story on it today. Looks like this is a bigger movement than most expected. What do you guys in the know think about the latest?

^ good development, been watching that project for a few months; for a while, it looked like regulation was going to kill it.

Bitcoin needs 2 things to thrive: expanded utility (what my new job does) and increased dissemination (what the ATM does).

we're the biggest bitcoin payment processor, currently.

we have a suite of plugins for e-commerce sites, mobile apps, etc, that allow vendors to accept bitcoin (you can keep them in BTC, or convert to any of 28 currencies at the market value @ time of transaction, eliminating volatility risk).

So, how do you think this will impact bitcoin currency rates? Decrease because of all the news press, or increase because of the cleansing of the bitcoin. Saw a figure that said some 75% of bitcoin usage was for illegal transactions. It is going to be interesting in the next couple weeks.

I'd bet another silk road type of site is already in operation. The black market is impossible to stop. Give it time, the new URL will eventually get out.

sure but it shows that the whole idea of "they can't shut us down" is preposterous.

it also proves what I mentioned earlier - be careful. take advantage of an early market and make some money, but don't be blind to the risks.

Yeah, that was a pretty dumb move on his part. Why would you interview with Forbes? Just bask in your anonymous profits and be content. Bragging is what gets you caught.
