The valve spring retainers seemed to be a weak point on the 2.0 motor, there were several cases of it at the Honda dealer in Vermillion, Ohio. Engines that had to be brought in and heads changed. I do not know if they updated the retainer or changed them for the 2.2, and do not know if that was one of the reasons to going to the 2.2L, lower-revving motor.

I've only driven a 2.0 and was very impressed from the limited seat-time I got, the car has a lot of punch even in the midrange (short gears + lots of compression), it didn't want to fall on its face like most 4cyl's.
