    Black Mesa

Black Mesa is a re-envisioning video game of the classic science fiction first person shooter, Half-Life.

Just checking to see if anyone has played it and what they think.

Black Mesa is a recreation of Half-life 1 using the source engine. It's currently not complete, due to be released on steam. Its a free standalone mod, you can currently play up until you enter the portal to Xen. A lot of work went into this game, there are a few crashes here and there, but overall i think its extremely good considering it's a free mod .

I never really enjoyed HL1 quite as much as HL2 because of the 90's graphics, but now I can say HL1 is my favorite because of Black Mesa.

Oh yeah the game was super creepy, especially when you spot the g-man some random place and as soon as you see him he walks away

Finished it yesterday and I have to say, coming from an indy group, it was damn impressive. They really kept the nostalgic feel to the game. Makes me want to play HL2 now.

I used torrent, there's like 20k+ seeders so you can max out your bandwidth

I quite enjoy it, but my biggest pet peeve is needing to jump crouch just about everything. If used sparingly it's special, but in this it's just annoying. Many silly parts have been cut out as well.

So...what part of the Half-Life saga is Black Mesa? I meant to get the whole Valve collection during the summer sale but I ended up not going through with it. I've been meaning to play the Half-Life's for over a year now...

Black Mesa is Half-Life 1 remade with the Source engine that Half-life 2, CSS, TF2, Portal, etc. games run on. A few parts have been edited out, but it's essentially a bigger and better version of Half-life 1. It's been in development for something like 7 years now.

So, after playing this I won't need to play Half-Life 1? It's just the same thing running on a newer engine?

Pretty much yeah. You can still play the original but I can't stand the graphics lol. Just remember the final part of HL1 hasn't been implemented, so as of now Black Mesa is missing the last "level" of the game, where you go to the alien world and basically slay them all.
