I'm thinking about buying a bike come spring time. I've never ridden on the street and am just a little sheepish about it, but it seems like waaayy too much fun for a small amount of cash compared to a car. I want something sporty and light while being fairly easy to ride and have enought power to move out of the way of assholes in SUVs. Anyone have some input? BTW, definitely want a used bike. $3-4K maybe more if its worth it.
What motorcycle for a new rider?

get a cheap bike to start off with....
a kawasaki ninja 250 is a good choice.. not too flashy, but it def has enough power to get up and move, while still safe for a new rider.
take some motorcycle control/safety courses, then when you're comfortable riding on the road, you can move up to something bigger (maybe something 500CC max)
its all about experience, and the thing that gets most new riders is too more power than they can control, just because of inexperience.

I've already taken my MSF class, and will be getting a 99 Katana 750 as my starter bike. I didn't want anything more than a 600 as my first bike but it's a family friend who is selling it to me and i can't refuse the offer. I've riden both the katana 600 and 750...and the 750 feels like a totally different bike.
Helmet and Jacket are comming in the mail tomorrow!! Can't wait to buy the bike. Let me know what you end up getting.
