    Things you've destroyed at work

Today due to a miscommunication I destroyed a $700+ servo drive (i'm a controls electrician)

so in that spirit, what's the most expensive thing you've ruined or seen ruined at your job

Edit: looks like they got the servo drive back and there was nothing wrong with it. The programmer and two engineers on the job need to go back to the drawing board.

But in other news, I was hit by a semi on my way to work yesterday so who's interested in an m50, modena e36 interior or various e36 parts?

Fellow employee was using an overhead crane and lifted a 10"x 40' segment of billet 6061. A strap snapped and the whole chunk decided to come down onto a KUKA KRL350. Destroying both. That was upwards of $3mil out the window.

That was a very expensive day for them, especially because that guy kept his job.

I accidentally spilled some gear oil on the puller of that 8" Aluminum extrusion press, while it was in motion. Ever seen a fireball scooting along the track at 45mph and still maintaining it's signal and control?
            I have.

            And it's hilarious.

the other day we destroyed a work truck lol.
the master cylinder for the brakes was tweaking out and locked all the brakes, our boss told us to try and drive it back to port anyways, so were traveling at about 4 MPH and at 4000 rpms and the thing just starts spewing coolant everywhere and so much steam, pretty sure we blew the head gasket lololol.
now there looking at replacement trucks for like 20k

When I was working at UCSB I took thermoelectric measurements in a vacuum chamber and the damn $5k probes kept on screwing up. I tried taking one apart to investigate a failure but stopped because it seemed like I needed a special tool to proceed. Boss said no it's tough, just try and pry it open so I reluctantly did, and wound up bricking the entire thing

It's no 3 million down the drain but when it happened 5kay was 5 running driving E30s. Academia is disgustingly wasteful. Shit happens but this could have easily been avoided.

Ummmm a few thousand dollars worth of printed circuit boards on a daily basis. I did manage to fuck up the lock sensor and a servo motor of a large format x-ray machine a year ago. when they say don't put in a 48" circuit board....don't.

Then again I am in the quality department so its my job to call out and ruin things.

I'm pretty sure insurance covered it, and Indeed. Academia is very wasteful. But that's also the process of learning too. (Sometimes, not all the time)

Best 2 screw-ups ive seen was someone leaving a main cap bearing out of a 20v 2000 mtu during a rebuild and it got all the way to being fitted to the boat and started before they realised due to lack of oil pressure.

Another exciting trip was when someone didn't tension the injectors down on one of these bad boys and it shot the injector through the rocker cover and set fire to the engine.

That sounds like something my boss would tell us to do (need a spare tire? don't go to pomps and put it on account, find another service vehicle to "borrow" it from), except I'd not do it.
