Fuck architects, every drawing I get from them is shit. Non tangent lines, lines that don't connect, non parallel lines, line on the wrong elevation etc.

Currently a grad student getting my M.Arch from SCAD. I have a lot of friends that graduated the past two years that haven't had any trouble getting jobs. Quite a few of my classmates have gotten internships over the past few summers working for some of the bigger firms like Corgen, Perkins and Will, Gensler, etc. I didn't intern this past summer because I started my graduate year early so I could spread my classes thinner and have more time to dedicate to my thesis.
I think the whole "there aren't architecture jobs available" thing is really exaggerated. If you have worthwhile skills, can put a portfolio together, and know how to market yourself you shouldn't have any trouble.

around here the word "architect" is sort of a joke. But I don't work on anything smaller than several hundred thousand tons. Buildings are something we buy out of a catalogue. :p
I'd rather go down the path of engineering. May do that one day when the kids get older. My wife is going back to school now, my turn will be after that. I figure design/engineer is a good match to have.
Even design/drafting is going to be old hat. I don't "draw" anything, it's all done in a model and then flattened for the client. we get the older experienced guys who have an eye for drawings but can't model to do the dimensions and notations.
Architecture might be fun if you're really really good at it, but it's like artists - a lot of crappy ones who are poor as dirt, and a few really good ones who are worth millions.
