Other than summer, no side wall, softer maximum grip tires that get hard when it gets cold. Not conducive to good traction when its cold out let alone when there is snow and icing conditions Have you not noticed the weather forecast lately, snow in west TX, the other day, and going to be abnormally cold for most of the country for a while yet

Jeep. Easier to fix, parts more easily available if something does happen. A blowout on a jeep would be easier to fix then some stance nono stretched tires at the Walmart super tire center.

I miss my XJ so much. I'd take that as the majority of the drive is straight and boring. Not sure what sort of MPG the E36 gets, but I know my Cherokee got like 18 on the highway so it will probably suck a good bit more fuel.

The questions which determine the answer are:
                  1. how long do you have to stay out there with the vehicle you choose?
2a. would you drive the chosen vehicle back to PA and when (what time of year)? or
2b. would you sell the chosen car out there and just fly back?

I say drive the XJ, employ the use of a hitch and trailer that M3. Some might say towing a car that distance would destroy the XJ, but hey it's a Jeep and that just adds character. Parts are cheap too and easy to work on as well.

^XJ's are quite hard to destroy, and with an automatic aisin 4-speed, that thing is almost bulletproof! I don't know about towing a car, but I can tell you, I brought mine through hell and back and it still started right up and drove me to where I needed! 300,xxx miles until we sold it!

                      Edit: whoops, meant 200,xxx miles.

have you ever towed a car before??? Let alone with a fucking XJ ???????? I would not want to drag a heavy ass e36 across town with an XJ let alone across the country and though the "mountains" of western PA Northern WV and far eastern OH, the Hill country of MO, then over or though the Rockies somewhere (NM/AZ would not be fun) or at least the high deserts, then at the very least up and over the coastal range to get to his final destination. You want him to do that in an XJ are you fucking serious, I dont even think it has a tow rating high enough for the e36 let alone the heavy ass Uhal car trailer.
