Cross country drive. PA to LA. Which vehicle would you choose.

Well, I need to have a car out west for my job. I don't really want to deal with a shipping company, and everybody tells me that you need to drive across country to see shit at least one time in your life. I do not want to get a CA drivers license so I can't buy a car out there and register it. Cargo is minimal, most of my things are already out there already. If I was to chose the e36, I would most certainly crank up the coilovers to stock ride height

It's around 2700 miles from My house to my destination

    Anyway vehicle choices are:

    93' Cherokee 4.0L 5 speed - 217k miles runs great
    99' e36 m3 5 speed - 175k miles runs great

I've owned the jeep for a couple years now, put about 75k miles on it and it has never left me stranded anywhere. In those 75k miles all I have done to it is oil changes and one alternator.

Nothing has ever happened to my e36 m3 since I've owned it either, however you never know with these cars. Shit could blow up at any moment.

I am leaning more so with the jeep, but I want r3v to decide my fate.

    Go

Low car across the middle part of the country this time of year :/

I would be taking the jeep, while not a comfortable ride, it would be better than the bone jarring and haveing to dodge every pot hole for 2700 miles in the low slung e36. Not to mention the SNOW or freezing rain you may encounter along the way. the 36 might be more fun once you get there, but you will be dreading the drive back to PA the whole time you are there.

My 2 cents from someone that has driven both types of vehicle across the country, I will take my truck over any lowered modded car for LONG Multi 12 hour+ driving time day trips.

I would most certainly crank the coilovers up if I was to choose the e36, but bad weather would be a challenge for sure

e36 in my mind. It also depends on how much cargo you have to carry, if it's a lot, the jeep may be your best option.

I'd still take the e36 and just raise it a bit. Way more comfortable and will be quite a bit more fun.

Very valid point. Cargo is minimal, most of my things are already out there already.

I'd do the jeep. More room, less of a chance to hit something since it sits high and if something does go wrong with it. You know 98% of where you go will have the parts for it.

Uh, no. If this is what you expect from your cars, don't take either.

XJ FTW, E36 looks good but is not in it's intended element with Winter. (yes I know it snows in Germany)

Jeep. It's gonna be way more comfortable (right?), and less chance of fucking up your oil pan/lip on a pothole/manhole cover/speed bump. If the Jeep gets a door ding it's not as big a deal, etc.

I like how half the people didn't actually read. E36 will be fine. Don't the jeeps have tranny issues and rollover issues?

Take the e36 it should be more comfortable and with your coils at stock height, you should have no issues with bad roads
