This makes my 4th XJ. The addiction to them isn't quite as profound as E30's, but it is damn close.
4.0HO, AW4, NP231, runs like a top and doesn't drip a single drop of fluid anywhere. Ice cold AC and every feature still works flawlessly. Easily the nicest vehicle I have ever owned.
Sitting on 4.5 inch lift and new 32 inch Mud Claws. Various upgraded suspension/steering bits are strewn throughout.
Only complaint with it is the radio, which is some big ass touch screen piece that I will be replacing soon.
Just a couple things I want to do with it. Apart from a plastic bin full of various survival/camping items, I want a smittybilt front and rear bumper as well as a quadratec winch, and all the associated straps and snatch blocks and d rings that compliment a winch.
I'm thinking about selling one of my e30s to buy a Jeep Cherokee. Are there are any good guides to buying one of these? What are some things too look for ie; rust areas (very important to me), engine/transmission health, and other general things. Budget up to $3000ish. Any help would be much appreciated.
97-99. very few late 99's then on up to 01 had the 0331 head which is prone to warping and cracking and causing catastrphic cooling issues. my 97 has been solid as a rock for 4 years. All i have changed was the cooling system, ps pump and a few sensors(my fault for putting hood vents in). there are several other things the 97-99's have going for them but my break is over. as for rust, you'll want to check the floors and rocker panels and also the front corners of the drip rails like to bubble up. The AW4 is an Aisin trans so you don't need to worry about the Chrysler shit going bang.

Here was her replacment I love it 25mpg and pretty good in the snow for a soccer mom SUV
