Similar thing happened to me last year. Pretty bad conditions, snow all over and windy. Suddenly I see brake lights, and cars sliding. I hit the brakes and thanksfully had brand new snow tires so they dug in and stopped me. About 6 cars were smashed up right in front of me and everyone behind started to stop. I saw an opening and dipped out.

For the record, my mom has a PT Cruiser and it is the WORST car I've ever driven.

usually, laws like that are qualified with something like "if conditions allow". It didn't sound like that was the case.
