    Opinion on taking my GED

I'm considering taking my GED now to get it out of the way before I go on tour in March. Due to my crazy music-based lifestyle homeschooling through highschool was a must and I currently do not have a diploma. Both of my parents think it's just a waste of time and I'm better of not having it because then I won't seem so much like a highschool dropout but my girlfriend thinks it's important to have and I should get it sooner rather than later. Anyone have any opinions on this matter?

Note that my dad's a college professer and my girlfriend is an Ivy League grad student so there's no education issue here. I'm just wondering what some of you may think about taking it now vs. waiting and taking it later if I need it?

I say get it to have it... there isn't any loss in getting it. Plenty of folks are home schooled.

Probably be easier for you to take it now

Probably be easier for you to take it now than later. Stuff like Pythageron's Theorom (or whatever it was) will be fresh in your mind now. You wont remember it five years from now as it doesn't come up too much in real life (unless you're a Geometry teacher or lay carpet for a living maybe). Same advice goes for taking the BAR exam for recent law school graduates.

Good luck with the music though. Hope you never have to rely on that "backup" plan.

I GED'd after being thrown out of the Miichigan public school system 6 weeks into the 10th grade.

BTW, What they will send you to "Continuation" school for in San Diego will get you a Police escort off of school property with a warning against trespass in Michigan...in 1978.

When I enlisted in the U.S. Navy the day after my 17th birthday, they said I had to GED, made a huge deal out of it. They said to pack a lunch, etc.

I had 4 hours to do the first part, I was done in 24 minuites or some shit. I have no clue what diffuculties the test has now, but then, it was so fucking simple I could have taken it on the bus over and still aced it.

Go do it now. I bet there will be no Pythagorean Theory or any other advanced physics, art, music, history or anything else diffucult to replicate in real life testing involved.

Why would there be? It is called the "General Education Degree".

I think it should have questions on how to estimate cup size and how to tell if a bitch is crazy or not!

BTW, send me some of youse guyses music, woodya? Just a song or 3.

            Closing SOON!

do it not it will be easier than going back... every person i know how has "taken a break" from school or something along those lines thinking they would finish up later has never gone back... its not a huge hastle and it sounds as though you're surrounded by inteligent people so i doub't this would be a huge problem for your other than the small time comitment...

it's your good enough diploma, although where your father is a college professor i can imagine your much more intelligent then a fair number of high school graduates....

do it unless you think you'd like to take a high school night-school later to get a high school diploma instead. iirc, 90-95% of opportunities for high-school graduates are open to GED graduates as well.

As everybody else has said, get it as soon as you can, otherwise you never will.

I got mine a month after I left HS, and I knew for a fact if I didn't get it then I would of never gotten the damn thing.

It's already been quite awhile since I've done anything school related but I suppose it's still better now than five years from now.
