My uncle who recently passed from cancer had MS. About 12 years ago it started showing signs of progression. He wasn't able to walk as far without breaks and then started having trouble getting up and down stairs. His progressed fairly slowly so there was a lot of time for adaptation from him and my Aunt. About 7 years ago he was fully confined to a chair although still able to use his arms fairly well. Around 3 years ago he lost basically all of his mobility and began having trouble with speech. They had morning and evening helpers come (one became one of my Uncles best friends) since my Aunt, in her 60's has horribly arthritic knees, could no longer lift him and bath him. He always handled it extremely well and was never without a smile on his face. Only one time did he ever break down and get emotional because of it. A year and half ago he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer among a few others. Normal treatment would have given some time but since he was already so weak from the MS they decided it would make his last year or so even worse. Still never without a smile despite such horrible odds against him. It wasn't till the last 2 months of his life that he showed any sort of signs and discomfort from the cancer, compounded more from the MS. He was so incredibly weak the last few weeks he could barely utter a word.
