I hated my pol sci class just for the fact that most of the people in it were so ignorant, and I go to a Christian college and my teacher was a democrat (OH NOES). The arguements they put against him were laughable, I wish I could get away with slapping some of them.

i think it has to do more with people trying to find out personal information on the internet, and continually harrassing people through email (mainly spam maybe?). i'm probably not right, but thats the idea that i got.

Yeah if you read the original act the intent seems to be to protect against attempts at direct communication.

That is the funniest thing. People only focus on the prez.

Learning about and voting in local elections is the most important. Its where you have the larger voice and will have the largest impact on your life. Its also the easiest to understand. Smoking bans, tax hikes, whether or not taxes are spent on roads or renewing a downtown district. Those are simple decisions to make.

Word. People usually don't realize how little the national elections affect them as compared to the local ones.

Fuck, nobody knows shit about the government or how it works. We are talking about college educated kids so you cant blame race or poverty. I think it would be for the best for everybody because I doubt the bulk of the "moral majority" would be able to pass it either.

This rant is brought to you buy a stupid article some chick found on CNET about how "supposedly" Bush just signed in a law making it a federal law to flame people on the internet using an alias. Well everyone got on the hate bush bandwagon despite the fact that the bill was unanimously passed by the senate and a landslide in the house.

What makes it even funnier is the article is a complete fraud. 5 minutes and you can find the section of the bill and there is nothing in there that the article refers to and it just extends anti-harassment laws to include the internet.

Oh Ryan, Id love to buy you a beer and have a chat with you, no matter what your politics are. An educated discussion without a difference of opinion equalling agression or dislike of the other. It actually pains me to see the indifference and ignorance exhibited by a great majority of the populace. But I decided not to let it get to me cuz if they dont care, why should I let it imbitter me? As long as people have their malls and SUV's and their "Desperate Housewives", they couldnt give a multi-colored shit about the way the 1% of the population that controls the country, cuts up the country for themselves and leave the rest of us out of the equation. Thats a bit of my commentary but you get what I mean. If it is that way or if it isnt, no one would really know because no one takes the time to care and see if were getting fucked or not, be it true or false.

That is one of my favorite things about this college town. Its more of a bedroom community with a school in it than one of those little nothing towns with only the school. They brought up the ban and it was in the school newspaper and everything. Students were freaking out and saying it wont pass. I got in the school paper with this quote:

I hate most everything else about the Bush administrations policies and our current Senators and Gov. Kline was cool to get me inside security and get a private tour of Congress but I'm not voting for that right-wing nutball.

The funny part is the wording they are complaining about was there in the original bill from 1934. All this administration did was extend that to include communications softwares used via the internet.

They are saying that this law now includes all internet communications but I would expect a precedent would have to be set re: the phone communications. If someone said you suck on a Blog it wouldnt hold up. That would be akin to me calling up all my friends and saying you suck. Without direct communication its hard to call it harassment.

the tricky part is that it includes "with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person at the called number or who receives the communications"

the vaugeness of the word annoy and that last part about "ANYONE who recieves the communications" causes a great deal of fear of abuse of the law to incarcerate political enemies, ala watergate. the word "intent" somewhat limits it, but how can you prove one way or the other that a person intended to do something without them admitting it? it suggests that either the law is useless, and will never be enforced, or is vauge enough to allow enforcement of the law to be used as grounds for other motives.

I completely respect that. Thumbs up to you for possibly the only good thing (IMO)that party is known for as of recent times. Although it seems to be that fiscally, its all bullshit, we have record deficits from what was a large surplus. But I dont fault the whole party. Just one or two key players. Especially in these times of domestic religious fundamentalists criticising other religious fundamentalists and throwing the whole world in disarray under the flag of freedom and righteousness, all the while completely going against the philosophy and moral teachings they say to follow.
