I almost joined the Navy. Went through all the physicals, took my ASVABS(99%), was offered a job as a Rescue Swimmer, got it on with a chick who was shipping out to the Army the next day(while I was taking my ASVABS). And in the end decided not to go because I could easily make way more money on the outside. The Seattle area is pretty easy to find work in.
Looking back after dealing with life in the civilian world, I think I would have done very well in the Military. My father was career Army and reached the highest NCO rank possible and retired. So it is in my family. But it was my parents who talked me out of going. There is a lot of BS. With command structures, there will always be someone who is younger and/or more inexperienced than you with more rank than you. And honestly, there aren't an influx of genius' in the Military. But there are good people and it is the most diverse working environment you will find. Not to mention you will see the world and your country. It is awesome, I highly recommend it if you haven't been around.
Anyway good luck in this time of your life. If you do go be smart about it and don't get brought down by the BS. No one wastes more time and is more paperwork redundant than the U.S. Military.
