The whole time I was watching it I was thinking that this dude MUST have a shop in the San Fernando Valley (where I grew up- a few miles from Burbank) and sure as shit at the end it says Burbank. I nearly fell on the ground laughing!

Funny thing is that the transmission in that Volkswagen Thing pictured are pretty much a universal transmission that was used on tons of Bugs. Nothing special so the smart money would be on just dropping that tranny in the dirt and slapping another one from the Pick and Pull in there. Ive seen em for free on Craigslist as well.
