So to sum it up, if he hadn't placed himself in the situation in the first place, he never would have drawn negative attention from police.Comment

I think you could have prevented unwanted police attention by not shouting shit at them, obviously trying to make a public statement by recording them and testing the boundaries of an active crime scene. I'm all for the public keeping the police in check, but the guy is spouting off shit about a civil rights violation and being confrontational to police who as far as I can tell from the video, are only doing their job. A job that had nothing to do with him, until he interjected himself into that situation. It's strange to think that you might actually get an undesirable response from police, especially since it's apparently universal knowledge that they are power tripping, itchy trigger having, racist pigs. Had the fuckwit stayed out of the situation and let them do their job, the world would have just as many beautiful rottis as it did when the video started. I fucking winced when I saw that dog writhing in the gutter before it died. My hurt instantly turned into anger for the twat of an owner that felt his presence was necessary at that scene. Then I read some of the comments that amounted to "fuck the police" and anger turned into sheer amazement for the stupidity of the people that had typed said comments.
So to sum it up, if he hadn't placed himself in the situation in the first place, he never would have drawn negative attention from police.
Its not illegal to film any government official. You do know that, right?Comment

Yes I am well aware it isn't illegal. I've watched dozens of videos on youtube of people not only filming unconstitutional police checkpoints, but standing up against them and driving away vindicated because the police/DHS/border patrol couldn't do shit to someone that actually knew their rights. I'm all for people standing up for their rights. But when you go out of your way to try to make a political/racial/religious/what-have-you statement, for no other reason than to pull the lion's tail to try to extort a reaction on camera so you can play "Gotcha!" on youtube, prepare to take some responsibility if the situation spirals out of control. The police have no idea if the crazy fucker with the big ass dog that keeps shouting at them is a threat to them. He was the only one of the many people spectating that made his presence obvious and borderline intrusive. He acted out of the ordinary and was confrontational. Great way to draw negative attention to yourself. The police very well could have detained him until they determined he wasn't a threat to them. Do I agree with it? No. Did he ask for it? Sure as shit did. It's strange how none of the other half dozen people that were recording the same police, at the same intersection, left the scene without being accosted, arrested, or shot...Comment

I grew up a black guy in LA, not far from Hawthorne. Ive had probably hundreds of interactions with LA cops, been handcuffed multiple times and arrested once. And this was back in the 80s and 90s when tensions with police were much worse. I can absolutely say that by what's shown in this video, the cops were in the right.
The one cop tried multiple times to grab the dogs leash, even after the dog lunged. At the same time, the cop that shot waited to see if the dog could be grabbed. They tried to get a handle on a situation they should not have been put in.
Nobody should have to face a potentially deadly dog in public. I can probably bet that if these were not police officers but instead law abiding concealed weapons owners that more of you would be defending the shooter.
Also Im dog owner. And if my dog got out and ran up to somebody aggressive and lunging, I would have nobody but myself to blame if my dog was shot.Comment
