Seriously. Any of you get scholarship money? Being a white kid in a moderate income family with a mediocre 3.6 GPA and virtually no documented extracirricular activities since freshman year... I'm getting kind of depressed about my chances of getting any money at all and my parents are on my back constantly. Anybody actually succeed at getting financial help? What for? Where to look?

It's supposed to be book money but there's another scholarship for that so she just spends the rest of the money on her car.
- She lives in a lower income area (not poor, but just lower than my area, at least)
- She has four sisters
- Her parents have jobs that don't show much to the IRS. (So it seems like it's a very low income family)
- And she is employed (full-time at a starbucks)
She did poorly in high school (2.5gpa)

3.6 is pretty good. What were your SAT scores? Where are you applying to? It may come down to picking a school based on cost.
I used to go to a $35K school that gave me $5K just because of the town I was from (lots of alumni in my area apparently). Seriously just apply for any and every scholarship that you can. There's lots of money just sitting around waiting to be spent on other peoples' college education. Depending on where you're going and your field of study, personal letters explaining your situation to scholarship-giving companies or committees can go a long way.

You have to consider it a part-time job in itself. You can break even but you are going to have to spend 40 hours preparing all the shit for scholarships and grants. On the essays often you might be the one of few who filed and filed properly. "By default" becomes your friend. My bro got a "Women in Engineering" scholarship because he applied, there werent enough qualified applicants, and its illegal for them to discriminate against him for having a penis.Im now E30less.

I get paid $800 a semester to go to Purdue. Just was golden enough slacking in HS to impress them by the numbers to award me some dough. I just pay rent, books, and booze, minus the part they deposit in my checking account.
For the most part, if FASFA thinks your family can pay for your college, they won't do shit for you besides let you take out loans. WOOOHOOO for you. A lot of scholarships require financial need. Thank god both me and my sister going to college at the same time fulfills that for her merit scholarship.
bottom line: either part time job it or loan it. fuck it, education is a great investment, just get a practical useful education, not some liberal art bullshit that just was an excuse to drink for 4, 5, 6 years and drain your parents and rack up a huge debt....
where are you going to school?
