Windows 8 is garbage.. how to speed it up?

I got a Toshiba laptop with 8 on it in may. The thing has been running slow as hell even brand new. I have so many issues with the whole windows button. I have no clue what they were thinking.. it makes everything cluster fcked and saves no time, and I imagine it eats ram.

It took me about 15-20 minutes to figure out how to close IE. Any website lags, and even programs often freeze when loading.

There pretty much is nothing on this laptop.. I have no idea how to speed this thing up but its really pissing me off. I run avg and there are no issues.

Windows 8 is FASTER than windows 7, used both extensively and I do have better performance in 8 on all my pc's. Aside from that though, the performance margine is slim, you might have something else going on causing your issues. Stepping back to 7 is not a bad idea if possible, the new layout just isn't for everyone (but you can remove it with a little google searching on the mods)

I have a laptop with Windows 8, and use classic shell to turn off all the windows 8 dressing, and restore the start menu. Great little program. Basically makes windows 8 look/feel like 7. As for your performance issues, what are the laptop specs?

I bought mine to replace an HP that kicked the bucket and that was a vista machine. Had we known it would be a tough transition we would have looked for a Windows 7.

I seriously cannot even find out how to find computer specs. It was a birthday present. It never really ran like a "new computer". My iphone can load the pages probably in 1/3 of the time. Its not like its a connection issue, I just get a X program is not responding loading icon often.

This windows 8 is complete utter garbage. I still do not even know how to make a new tab or close tabs under this "secondary" IE browser. It does feel like xbox live or a tablet. I honestly have no clue what they were thinking.

On another note.. How would I downgrade? What does it cost?

I enjoy windows 8 a lot WITH a touchscreen. Without one Win 8 is hard to use, I bought a Surface pro and love it.

Yes, I could see that being very beneficial with windows 8.

I just installed the classic shell.. SO much better. However I often get "IE has a long running script" or some sort of message pretty much whenever I click a link. The computer still runs slow. Any ideas?
