    R3V...I need help.

Here's the situation. My fiancé was an au pair during our engagement (by contract, she wasn't allowed to get married while an au pair). We planned on getting married as soon as her au pair year was over which would've been in February. However, she was recently fired (Wednesday 10/30/13) and when an au pair is fired, they do not get the extra month to stay in the United States legally, they only get 2 weeks. However, the day after she was fired (Thursday 10/31/13) we were called into the police station because we are now under investigation for identity theft...accused by her previous host dad (we didn't do it so I'm not worried about the outcome of the investigation...only the impact it's going to have on our plans to get married). We wanted to get married this weekend because of the new time frame issues...but Arizona law states that we have to have a marriage license in order to get married (this may take up to 30 days). My question is this:
Can we leave the state of Arizona to Las Vegas to get married while under investigation? The time frame is killing us because after the investigation her deadline will start and she'll only have 2 weeks...we need to get married about 3 weeks before her last day for all the marriage paperwork to be fully submitted and documented so that she doesn't become an illegal immigrant.
Our only hope is that we could jump to Vegas, get married, and start on the documentation now. Can anyone help us??????

Maybe it's just me, but it sounds like someone wants citizenship pretty bad. Don't end up a mealticket.

It was MY idea to get married...not hers. I want to get this straight that this is NOT a thing for her to get citizenship.

How do both families feel about the situation? In my opinion if it is this troublesome, maybe you are meant for someone else...

Also, patience really is key to a marriage, you could find a way to make it work elsewhere in a timely manner.

How long have you guys been dating? I'm assuming less than a year? Also, what was she fired for?

I truly came here looking for an answer to my question because this is a very difficult situation. Both of our families are for us getting married. Hell my family said "there's always Vegas". I know that for a marriage we need time...unfortunately we don't have that luxury. Please...this is a very serious situation so please leave the jokes elsewhere because you're just wasting my time.

Spend the money and contact a lawyer to make sure.

I am no lawyer, but i would think the police would tell you if you were not allowed to leave the state when they asked you to stop by for a visit if it was an issue. It is not like you are moving to LV.

You could do it monday, then proceed with your plans. A couple of days should not kill you.

Why do you need to get married so fast? Is it possible to wait for the several shit storms brewing to pass and then get married?

I've had a few friends get married to keep girls here, aint nothing wrong with that to each his own. Rushing a marriage on the other hand sounds like disaster especially if you haven't been together for a while.

OP you gotta also understand this is r3v; not a sewing circle. The personal advice you seek could be better found on some shit like match.com or inquiring a lawyer who knows your states law. This is a website filled with a bunch of guys(and some women) who have nothing better to do than troll on people like you.

If your looking for advice on a car part then you've come to the right place.. If your looking for marital advice your better off asking your neighbors dog at least the silence will be better than whats offered here.

                      Agreed.

Why not let her return to her country, clear your names, and then get married under better circumstances? If you are truly in love, devoted and committed to each other, a few months (give or take) should not be a problem.

Don't let this situation force your hand. You will not regret moving forward in a thoughtful, patient manner. The last thing either of you want is to later on feel that you were pressured into the marriage.

Hope everything works out well for your and your intended.

Let's look at just the information:

I'm not a lawyer, but had to figure some similar things out. My fiancee lives overseas and I live in the USA.

If your fiancee is in the USA, yes, you should be able go to Vegas and get married, no problem.

If she goes back to her home country unmarried, you will have to either A) marry her there or B) get a fiancee visa to have her come here to get married.

If you do A) you need to file for a spousal visa. That will take about 9-12 months AFTER you get married there
If you do B) you can start on her fiancee visa immediately. She has to go back but she will be able to move here in 9-12 months AFTER filing the paperwork. You can get married in the States, and they will convert that to a green card.

We did B. We filed in February, and she's able to come to the States this month! We'll get married in Dec in the USA.

If you get married at Vegas, she'll still need to file paperwork, and she might have to go back to her home country, which then makes for A.

Best bet is to talk to a lawyer. If you don't wanna talk to a lawyer, go to visajourney.com for a community that can better answer your marriage questions than anywhere else on the web.
