Looking for a new Android phone

So from a cost perspective since I plan on staying with Sprint just upgrading is the way for me to go no matter what phone I choose. Is there a way to get rid of the Sprint bloatware that they put on the phone? I know you can't usually go in and uninstall it.

Bloatware is only removable if you root the device. Carriers protect those apps so you can't easily uninstall them. If you're rooted you can use titanium backup (or similar) to remove them. If you flash a custom ROM they will already be removed most likely.

If sprint is offering the N5 I'd get that and be done. It won't have bloatware on it and if you do decide to flash it later the process is much easier. Historically nexus devices can be unlocked with a simple command issued via fastboot/adb whereas most other phones require a security exploit to gain this access.

Spend some time on xda, all this stuff is explained ten times over, usually with step by step instructions and/or screenshots. Most of the better android news sites have tutorials also.

Yep. In his case "unlocked" means not locked to a specific carrier.

In my other posts I was referring to locked/unlocked boot loader, which is important if you are to flash the phone with a custom ROM.

Either way it's a great device and since it's nexus it'll be super easy if you decide to root/ROM down the road.

So I have a question about software skins......Say I buy a Nexus5 but get it for the sprint network it'll have the Sprint software skin on it? Even if I order it from say Amazon? But if I bought it outright from the Google Play store it would be software skin free? Would I be able to just take it to sprint and have it hooked up? Or could I do an app like CleanRom and fix the software skin issue?

Sprint is not allowed to put anything on the nexus. Being said, staying with Sprint while getting a nexus is pointless. The network is shit so you're better off on an at&t or T-Mobile for less and get a better network.

Not around here.....sprint and Verizon own the midwest, most all otger carriers blow. I dropped att for that very reason.

The N5 still works on Sprint's network without a contract. See if boost can get you a better price, its the same network.

Got my N5 Saturday. This phone is incredible. Voice recognition is unbelievable, "Ok Google" then your command, response and accuracy is spot on. Fast, the shortcuts are well designed and clean. I was frustrated when I first started using it, but I realized that my S2 was just over complicated in comparison.

Overall extremely happy with it so far.
