EDIT: And you sure sound judgemental of his life, are you sure you are not a twisted in the context of life and religion one in this situation?

EDIT 2: What if, for instance, he saves someones life on this adventure and finds his calling as a Dr. and goes on to throw your judgment right back in your face? Who would you be to say the God he has a relationship with didn't cause this, and prove everyone that doubted this friend wrong?

I would just suggest to you not to associate yourself with them. If you go against them then some of them will accuse you going against God (which i know youre not religious, but its just a situation that should be avoided regardless).

Im sorry to hear that he affected you and your friend negatively. Hopefully you can find a new roommate.

He has religious phases, the room mate who is going to live with me is his cousin.

He's also religious, but more of a genuine person. great guy and stands by his word. He also thinks its crazy and doesn't think its a God thing. If it was, he would be more responsible about it. God gave us a heart and a brain. Do what we feel, consult your brain in doing it the best way.

If being religious, don't you have some what of a line? Things you can do or not? Weed probly isn't in there but I see weed pointless. Sex, who doesn't have sex? If he is being very religious, what caused him to do these things?

I do sound judgmental, to be honest isn't everyone? I do my best to not be judgmental around people I know and don't know. It's respect, simple as that. Everybody gains it at first. It's their choice to lose it. I do my best to say everything within in context. I wouldn't be posting here if he said something along these lines. " this is my dream" but this isn't a dream of his. He goes through religious phases. These two other guys he is going with planned it for a 1 year and its a dream of theirs which I respect.

Well, Anything can happen. I am not doubting him about his travel, I feel he should really think about it more and longer rather than in one day. I left the convo with him in good standing. I told him its irresponsible, way last min, messed up my plans, shows the landlord that we are somewhat irresponsible. If he does save a life, and become a doctor. I will be happy for him and I'm glad that happened. As for my judgment, it will change and I was wrong. Maybe it's just me. Not afraid to say I'm wrong and I should change my view. If he said it was for something else, like a dream of his, I would fully support it.

What an idiot. Another useless life form that uses religion as an excuse for pretty much anything. Tell him to pound sand and find yourself a more reliable roommate.

i once had a friend who tried something similar, but it was by himself, he got a bunch of sponsors and people to meet him in towns to and help him out. and he made it a month maybe and had to call it quits because his hip was causing him a great deal of pain.
i dont really know the whole story. but i say good luck to anyone trying something like this. haha

Your friend has serious emotional issues. People who embark of these kinds of things dont think they will actually make it all the way. Its a way of dying a "noble" death. Case in point: seattle man who was going to walk to brazil.

To be honest if my friend planned it by himself, I wouldn't be posting here. Means more when doing it by yourself rather than band wagoning it with other people last min deal and claiming its "God"

No. The line is between him and his God. The line you as an outsider put upon him is where people get all twisted up in this whole God/Religion thing. I can do whatever the fuck I want, and I believe in God.

All that impossible to do shit in the book (The Old Testament Bible) is there to prove that no human can do all those things, or not do those things, as the case may be. The whole sin thing is to show that it is impossible to live up to the code God set forth, and even the thought is as bad as the deed, so even a thought of hating, or thinking of eating shellfish, or of cloven hooves, or cutting, or not cutting your hair, etc. is as bad as actually doing it, thus there is no way you can do so.

Then, boom, this other dude pops on the scene, says he is Gods son. Talks a good game, does his thing. His death on the cross was to pay the toll required, for a man(human) to do what God expected, and begins a New Testament with the peeps on the ground and the dude in the sky.

So, while we are all still sinners, doing everything God said we couldn't in the Old Testament (old contract), the New Testament (new contract) says that is not what matters, those were the Ye Olde Ruless. So, implying there is a line is one thing, because yes there is, but that line doesn't mean anything, a new one was painted on the ground, and it supercedes the previous contract.

And that covers a quickie on the first part.

But really, if he is a friend, regardless of how stupid and thoughtless something he is saying just might be, maybe this is the thing that makes him stick to his word, maybe somewhere on day 87, 16 miles into the day, something amazing happens.

I don't know, and you don't know, and as a friend, that shouldn't matter, the friends we have should be there to hold us up in support even when they think it's something they themselves wouldn't do, and if you can't do that, maybe you should find another person to be friends with.

He just might blow you away. Or, he will fail, but won't die with the regret that he didn't at least try to do something crazy. And that would be way worse than losing the respect of someone that calls themselves a friend.

Jesus Christ OP it's none of your same business. There is more to life than working and having money. Maybe he needs just something like this to straighten himself out. Maybe after living a year like a bum he will realize poverty is not for him and get his "career" started.

you sir are totally right. Time will tell. I just hope he gets something good out of it than bad. Like I sad before we ended the convo good. At the end of the day its his decision. I just hope he doesn't regret it. I said before i rather him think about it longer, than a day.

I'm not very religious, so to you, me being the non believer. Good first point, relationship would make more sense than following a old ass book that has been edited so many times. But who knows. Time will tell
