GF's parents have a Pit. I used to not like them until meeting him (Sampson). He's cool as shit. I think he's ~13 years old now, but is one of the sweetest dogs I've met.

I just don't like slobbery dogs.

My Elsa has some pit in her, but she's mostly Lab and GSD.

Me and my wife literally just rescued 2 pits a few days ago. A 70lbs, 2yo, brindle male named Ra[Raw] (Sun God) and a 45lbs, 1yo, all white female named Maia[Maya] (Greek Goddess). The boy has adapted very quickly and is extremely loving and fun. The girl is still a little stressed from the vast change of environment and recent surgery. But overall she's opening up a lot to everyone and is very sweet. Ra is my dog and Maia is my wife's. Honestly...other than some of the typical hooliganism from him, he's one of the best dogs I've had.

From my experience small lap dogs are more vicious than pits by a long shot.

This is extremely true, MY reason being when a small lap dog bites or barks the owners usually do not correct them as they are harmless and may be considered as a cute gesture.

now when a big dog barks or jumps on you it is a little bit harder to ignore, although just as cute, so the owners correct them early on. And given the reputation of pitbulls set by the media and irresponsible owners, most of the pit-owners I have seen are very careful/aware of their dog's body language and potential.

for this reason(but not this alone) smaller lap dogs are more vicious in my mind. but all dogs are equal, it really comes to the owner and how it was raised/trained.

my pit plays dead when barked at or chased after at the dog park. do I think he does that because he is a pit? no, but rather because that is his personality and I do not know what he went through before being rescued so I am sure he has a reason.

here is my rescue puppy and his website.

This is my last dog, had to have her put to sleep about 6 months ago. She was a lab/pit mix, survived thyroid cancer, torn ACL and a broken front leg (before we rescued). Old girl went through a lot but was always the best companion one could wish for. She is missed terribly, another pit rescue will happen once my toddler son get's a little bit older.

I wish I had pics right now. I lost both of my pitt's a year ago this month. I currently only have a boxer. I will be adopting another pitt as soon as I move out of my apartment (doesn't allow "viscous" animals).

                      Awesome pups.

To the people who are against these dogs, keep from posting. Keep your ignorant false misinformation to yourselves. I rescue these dogs, there have been 32 of them in and out of our house in the past year alone. Not a single one bit me, attacked our male pit, or bit anyone. They were all extremely loving and just want extra pets.

I know what you mean. I used to work for a rescue, my mother is still a chairwoman for the rescue. I have fostered 25+ over the years. I have never been bitten by a pit or pit mix. I have been bitten by several labs and golden retrievers and other "family" dogs over the years.

indeed. pits have a bad rep because this was the traditional breed used in dog fighting. as mentioned already, any breed can bite.

People just believe what they hear from the media instead of finding out the real truth. They'd rather jump on the bandwagon.
