Better not have a hidden storage compartment in your vehicle, in Ohio.

    http://dailycaller.com/2013/12/30/dr...d-store-drugs/

A man was arrested for having an EMPTY hidden compartment in the trunk of his car. The officer said he could smell Marijuana, searched the car, and found nothing. Yet under a new law, just the mere compartment is reason to arrest.

I better not take my Trooper to Ohio, because it came from the factory with a concealed compartment under the rear seats.

If it smells like weed, and is a custom made hidden compartment, and that's illegal, fine by me.

“No person shall knowingly operate, possess, or use a vehicle with a hidden compartment with knowledge that the hidden compartment is used or intended to be used to facilitate the unlawful concealment or transportation of a controlled substance,”

If he's not guilty of the above, he'll be acquitted. That's how the system has always worked. They can arrest you if they think you've done something illegal, then it goes to court to be sorted out.

The "smelled like weed" thing is likely BS to get probable cause to gain more invasive access around the 4th and YOU KNOW THIS. Its a easy lie to use, because no matter whom you use it upon, there is no way for the citizen to have any kind of legal recourse against it when no trace of it is found.

There was no trace of weed found in the car the compartment nor on the person arrested, (from the the story I read on this a few days ago) So if there were no traces found how could there be a smell of weed coming from it??? Trace implies there was once weed in it...........

What is he guilty of a fucking thought crime, because this compartment CAN be used for something nefarious means he did use it for such a purpose. This is not a good law its piss poorly crafted and implemented, might as well have Tom Cruise running this PRE CRIME division of OH law enforcement....

Just because he is acquitted of it does not mean this cop has not ruined this mans life or cost him 1000 or 10,000 of thousands of dollars on a needless legal defense because of some cop bending the rules trying to put a feather in his cap for some BS charges, rather than do the actual job a cop is supposed to do. Dose not mean this man or anyone else still has a job, or his reputation with in the community is not tarnished or totally destroyed. Just because you are acquitted does not mean there are no repercussions in real life.

Why would you have a secret compartment if you aren't using it to smuggle something?

And like others said, if he really is innocent, he will be acquitted of the charges.

this would never happen in WA or Colorado.. sleeve, I think you know where I'm going with that thought.

FWIW, it's been legal here for about a year now. amazingly, the world hasn't come to an end, and everyone didn't suddenly start smoking that didn't already do it.

What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Regardless what the compartment is used for.

I suppose thats the short and sweet of what I was trying to get at. And totally agreed, though with the civil asset forfiture laws of OH and most of the country for that matter your property can be guilty until you prove it was not used or acquired illegally

Nando I know what your getting at and I think your familiar with my confliction (that is a word right) from a principals Vs. personal morality stand point.
