Dude, that's awesome. Coming up on 8 years with my wife...it's not always easy or fun, but it's fantastic.

This is r3v, thread titles never have anything to do with the content.

And thanks for the kind words everyone, it's a big step, but a welcome one. Fortunately we both have siblings who are married and have taken care of the grandchildren part, so hopefully there won't be much pressure there. As for asking her dad's permission, I'm a bit old school in that respect. Also, given the amount of ammo he got for Christmas for both his 12 gauge and AR-15 I figured it was prudent ;)

              Two things
1 if you are smart you will keep out of the planning for the most part, but involve yourself by periodically asking if she needs any help or if there's anything you can do. Wedding dress, listen to her bitch about the shopping for a dress, you can't help per say, but you can listen. Best thing you can do for your wife now and in the future is listen and be involved.
2 I'm going to need to see pics of future wife.
              Congrats buddy.
              Yours truly,

I'm not gonna lie. I hate weddings. At my brother's wedding last summer, I was more interested in riding around in the 76 Cadillac than sitting and chatting with boring and/or drunk people and women in their 60's dancing with barely anything on.
Although that was better than a classmate's wedding a year before that. That was boring as hell.

Pleeeease make sure your friends aren't bored. Screw the old farts, its not their party.

Thanks man, that is what I was planning on doing. Fortunately (or unfortunately) she hates planning stuff, so I think she'll keep it simple.

Honestly, I don't give a shit. It isn't their party, and situations are what you make them. If you want to have fun, you'll have fun. My friends know how to have a good time, and will be fine regardless.

                              Congratulations!

My wife, her sister and one of her friends arranged our marriage. I was braced for the full deal with matching coasters and floral whatnots but she was and is too sensible for that.
It ended up being only about a month's pay and the best party of my life. At midnight the wait staff said "Your wine's over there, beer's in the cooler, lock the door when you leave."

Can't understand people who spend multiple 10s of thousands on one day. Crazy.

My wife mentioned that if she told caterers "Wedding" the price was twice as high as when she called back and said "Party."

thats awesome, i would just do mine in my backyard and have the mother-in-law cook. I can definitely see that happening with caterers.

congrats OP, my girl and i been together for 6+ yrs and had the marriage discussion and she wanted me to spend the money on a house instead of wasting it on one day...yea shocker, i know...lol. House is here and baby is on the way now..guess i'm doing it backwards...lol

maybe this summer i'll pop the question.
