New York should use more road salt.

Around here they're dumping it like it's going out of style. I saw a snow drift in the road the other day that turned out to be about a 6 inch pile of salt.

It's amazing that any cars survive winter up here.

On any other day I would say Canada isn't much better, and today isn't going to be any different. lol The province of Alberta does things a little different... they use rocks. Yes, rocks. It has the highest windshield replacement rate of any province, and that's the people who decide to replace it. A walk around town and you'll notice just about every vehicle has a cracked windshield. I got three chips/cracks in 1-month. I now drive around with a Pertex chip-repair kit in the glovebox.

I wash the poor thing about once a week, and it still doesn't feel like enough. Ugh. Didn't people use sand in the past? What's so bad about that? Buildup?

Maine is just as bad. That is why my car talon stays parked all winter.

I haven't seen snow since the e30 got a face lift. Really don't miss it either.

I didn't see shit for salt on the roads down here.

I think they used it all up when it didn't do shit a couple weeks ago.

I commute every day 110 miles round trip up the turnpike and parkway in NJ. My car is nearly two colors front to back in the winter.

From what I've seen with the advent of many vehicles having 4 wheel drive, the use of snow tires is becoming less and less common. Because of having 4 wheel drive, people drive more recklessly due to their false sense of security and I would imagine there are more snow related accidents now than there were 25 years ago when only trucks and the Audi quattro had 4 wheel drive.

To compensate, the municipalities throw more salt, sand, rocks, etc down because it's obviously not the drivers fault he ended up in the grassy median between north and southbound roads!

I try to wash the car whenever possible, but it's damn near impossible when it's 20 degrees out. Anything that's older, like an e30 is fighting a losing battle in the winter, that's why I stopped driving mine in the snow about 6 years ago.
