They can, and will. One paw swipe and your 40 feet away dead on the ground. Or, no need for paws. They got jaws, and teeth. Very potent bear weapons for sure.

That said. It is just a black bear with a silent non agressive approach. Get em all the time 'round these parts. I've just never been stuck up a tree with one. Situation would determine outcome.

Not to mention you would be at ground 0 of a Bear mace apocalypse. regular strength pepper spray is bad enough, that super high test shit would wreck your week, also bear swipe/attack = not good.

Bear spray has a reach of about 40 feet, fuck I would use it on anything trying to climb the tree I was in before it got anywhere near me. Some people have no fucking common sense when out in nature, mother nature can and will kill your ass right quick and in a hurry just for the fun of it. Being stupid while your out there has a tendency to hasten that process.

Isn't that the truth. I am only starting to "re-discover" outdoor survival skills I had developed as a kid. if common sense were actually common, most people wouldn't have to worry about surviving out of doors. but they do.
