Quite a few of us here in Phoenix. Depending on when you come through here I may have a bed you guys can crash on.

Edit: You're also doing the road trip I've been dreaming of for a few years now, minus the Iowa --> Texas part. I wanna drive the whole PCH from San Diego to where ever it ends.
Awesome man, we will definitely be in contact. You'll probably see some posts on instagram in the coming days as well.

By the way Avi and I did this trip a while back in an 02 and we set the GPS to avoid all freeways. We were on dirt mountain roads in parts and it was the most fun Ive ever had. Id encourage you to take as many 2 lane roads as possible
          Thanks Steve!
We will probably take the interstate to get out of Iowa and then take some back roads the majority of the way. Were in no real hurry.

Oh believe me, those are definitely on the detailed trip route. We want to see as much as possible.

As of right now we do have a semi permanent place to crash while in Phoenix, its a family member of my buddy. But I would definitely be down to meet up at some point, maybe you can point out some cool places to visit while we are there.

Get the Annual park pass at the first one. For me it was Badlands. $80 and it paid for itself FAST. Covers driver, car, and up to 4 passengers.

Also, Stay away from hotels. Take a tent and camping supplies. I firmly believe not going to hotels made my trip exponentially more memorable. http://freecampsites.net/usa/ Was basically an asset.

And, probably the biggest piece of advice I can give. Plan less. Plan a route, and take it loosely. I don't think I stuck to 30% of my plan, and there wasn't much of one to begin with.

We plan to camp or stay at family or friends' houses along the way. Thanks for the heads up on the campsite website.

We are still in town . The e34 started running strange and was throwing 2 codes on Saturday , decided to stay in town until we could fix it. It was throwing 1222 and 1221. I think I have gotten to the bottom of it. I believe it was the coolant temp sensor , clogged fuel filter, and a faulty 02. Wish us luck, hoping to leave monday

Go south out of Kansas City on 71 (actually in Missouri), then catch I-44 outside Joplin and ride that through to OKC, it will be noticeably faster than your current route through Kansas/OK.

And when you're in Kansas City, stop by Arthur Bryan'ts for some legit BBQ. The little funky one on the east side of downtown.

This sounds like an awesome trip, good luck! I am excitedly planning a similar trip in the next couple months, heading out of Florida, up the east coast, then back across the states to Oregon

E34 is fixed. So we are back on for leaving this week now. Leaving Mason City thursday afternoon and stopping at a buddies house before leaving Iowa.

Currently staying in Joplin, Mo for the night, we are leaving in the morning for Northern Texas. We most likely won't make it to Austin tomorrow. Having a blast so far.
Heres a few pics from last nights sunset on the side of the road.

a little e34 action for ya as well.

Last night at the house we are staying at they were having a party for one of the sons, lets just say it was a shit show. I think there was one broken nose, couple t shirts ripped from barbed wire fences, luckily no one got alcohol poisoning.

Heres one of the kids , as you can see he has assumed the "on all fours dry heave" position.

                            Stay tuned for more.
