          I used to have a hamster JUST like that (Asian Dwarf Hamster) and it used to do the same thing in the wheel I had for him. LOL

                  are you sure it's not some really free-rolling bearings? maybe shaft bearings?

                    Ooooh hamsters, we had some good times with those :)

                    Put them in their little plastic ball and then spin it around and around, lol. Let them go down the stairs in their little plastic ball.

                    I put them on their back and put my finger on their belly so they couldnt get up, hehe it was so fun.
