This is another example of people on R3V presenting their uneducated opinions as fact.

Again Krav was not developed for cage fighting or any other kind of competition fighting. A street fight, and a cage fight are two very different animals, and just because you are a good competition fighter DOES NOT mean you will win a street fight.
I'm not sure where I said krav was developed for the cage. What I said was if you wanna defend yourself get a gun, or avoid dangerous situations. No amount of fighting skill can stop a bullet. Quit being a fanboy and realize if i have a gun and you have your fists I will be the one walking away every time.

EDIT: And I never said Krav wasn't a good martial art, what I said was that unless you are being trained in the Israeli army, your gym owner is probably friends with the guy who makes Frost cutlery.

lol this is why i come to R3V

honestly i do plan on purchasing a fire arm at some point, but that is beside the point. Id like to learn something like krav maga to protect myself in the case i don't have a firearm on me. i stay away from dangerous situations as much as i can, this is more of a "just in case" kinda of thing. plus, i think it will make me a more well rounded person, its knowledge, i love learning things about myself and other cultures.

this isn't a debate on gun vs fists etc, this is just me wanting to better myself in multiple ways, and keep myself safe, "just in case"

You're not going to learn to protect yourself unless you study for at least a year.

I really enjoyed it and since work paid for it, I kept going for as long as I could.

Give it a shot and ignore these fat clowns who are knocking it.

Ok, thought I would join in on this. Mainly cause it is turning into a pissing match between styles. I've trained muay thai, bjj, boxing, and judo for most my life. The biggest lesson I've learned, and what nobody here has touched on is the mental facet. You see, no matter how much training and practice you've done it doesn't matter if you can't mentally carry out said training. For most people, the flight instinct far out ways the fight one. They simply freeze, and lock up. Or technique goes out the window and you simply act wildly. You see this even in pro mma fights when a fighter gets tagged a couple times. If you can't think clearly while being punched in the face training means nothing.

The other aspect of the mental game, and especially with krav, is can you mentally cause that kind of damage to another human being. I can teach you how to break someone's arm, but only you can make the decision to do so. Just like how alot of soldiers simply can't pull the trigger, no matter the training. It's human nature towards violence. Some can make it past that, some can't.

Due to your crossfit background, I would suggest bjj. It falls closer to what you know in physicality. In grappling your using all major muscle groups at the same time, exerting near 100% the entire time fighting for position. It may not look it, but it's far more physically demanding then a striking only system. I can do striking stuff for far longer than grappling. It simply sucks the energy out of you. You may be better off with a mma gym that teaches and trains in multiple systems. Just like in fitness, specializing in one fighting style leaves you open to the rest. Power lifters suck at cardio, cardio people suck at power lifting. Gotta be able to protect yourself no matter where the fight goes. Besides, there's a reason mma fighters are the best conditioned athletes in the world. Krav is great, but only one small part of the total picture that is self defense.

i've never heard of krav maga but it looks a lot like aikido. i sucked at aikido but really liked it, and krav maga looks about the same, maybe a tad more aggressive.

similar tenets: stay aware, run first; if you can't run, distract and strike, get your opponent off their center of gravity; don't risk ground fighting, just run.

tl;dr. cage fighting bravado will not save you. work on your cardio and don't go looking for fights.

What do you do if you have a malfunction, run out of rounds, lose control of your gun, etc? Don't get me wrong, I also carry for this very reason but if you're aware enough to carry you should be aware enough to know that you cannot count on that .45 traveling at 800 ft/sec being the end all be all.

Haha. I must seem paranoid to people who live in a dream world of candy canes and rainbows. I'm sure if you or a loved one find yourself in trouble, the police will be there in 2.5 seconds flat to save the day right? I'm not paranoid, I'm realistic that if I need to defend myself or my family that I can do it without relying on anyone else to step in. You keep on trolling...
