    yes. throttle position switch (closed), engine speed, and vehicle speed all input into the computer.

      I remember Clarkson talking about this on top gear, and also said that in a manual car you aren't using gas as you coast in gear right before you stop/ put it in nuetral.

        Here is a direct quote from the MS42 technical training manual:

        As the throttle is closed,the ECM decreases the injection ms value (fuel shut off)if the rpm is above idle speed (coasting).This feature decreases fuel consumption and lowers emissions.When the engine rpm approaches idle speed,the injection ms value is increased (cut-in)to prevent the engine from stalling.The cut-in rpm is dependent upon the engine temperature and the rate of deceleration.

            Beat me to it. There was an idle fuel relay system on the M20 IIRC.
            Im now E30less.
