I don't think the mode of testing (pee vs. hair) is related to the clearance of the job, but to the company's policy. All of the interns (MS geology students at the school I work at) that go to oil companies seem get their hair tested. A couple of the students I work with got a cranky tester who took a large and randomly placed chunk from the prospective intern's head.

FYI - If the person to be tested doesn't have enough hair to test, that person is automatically failed.

Actually, more and more companies are screening through hair now.
It goes back like 90 days and is much harder to pass if you've been doin the dirty as Sina's homie has apparently been up to :p


Source: I was recently hired at bmw sf where they yanked hairs from the dome for screening.

It must be a west coast thing, they rarely do hair test on the easy coast!
