    Attention !!!!!!! Any of you northerners Good Aurora Night

    The KP is is going to fairly high tonight if your in any of the northern states or the southern hat, get to where its dark and look to the north, low on the horizen you should be able to see a green hazy cloud moving and dancing tonight.... Might even get some purple and red too

    Northern Lights here people KP is 4 right now if your north of Lansing MI you should see them very well

        Great shot! I'd love to see the Aurora in person someday, must be pretty awe-inspiring.

          As soon as I saw this thread this morning at about 330 I immediately went to the lake but the sun had started to come up by the time I got there. Sky was too bright. Couldn't see a thing. I didn't know this was visible from way down here.

            That's a great pic Sleeve!

            I'm guessing it was probably around ten years ago, but there were several days with enough of an increase in solar activity that I was able to see the Aurora from here in Cleveland. Unfortunately, it wasn't as detailed and vivid as you see in the photos... more of an eerie, undulating red glow in the sky. Didn't help that there were some clouds and a partial moon either. Still really cool though.

              you guys in Up state NY should have been able too see them last night but yeah 330 is a bit after peak, and as soon as the horizon gets a hint of sun light it will drown them out... Yeah it was about midnight when I checked the forecast and the KP and saw it was 4+ posted this and was out the door.

              If you could have gotten out far enough in the CLE area you might have seen them low over the lake as a erie greenish glow, keith you would have great vantage point.

              Will go though the rest of the pics a post up a few more after a while

                There is some major solar flare activity going on the last day or sob(radio and sattlite interference) and expected to last though Sunday I think, Should give us lots of Aurora activity for the start of next week. Keep your eyes on the space weather forecasts and to the northern skies at night

                    Dafuq? You can see that from the contiental US? I thought you had to be in Alaska/Yukon/Norway to see them..

                      Generally and on a regular basis yeah, they will be much more "over head" the higher the latitudes you go, Vs. down here when they are mostly just above the horizon.

                      When there is an exceptional amount of Solar activity you can see them down here and sometimes as far south as Kansas on very rare occasions. During the Carrington in 1859 the were visible as far south as the Tropic lines and early morning hours. The resulting side effects was a implosion of the telegraph systems all over the world

                            Awesome, thanks for those three sites - Got a decent enough view of them that weekend on the east end of Lake Ontario in sandbanks provincial park - nothing like that MT shot though!

                              you have to remember when your shooting them with a still shot the shutter is open and recording data for a few seconds, not just seeing them in real time
